Hi there.

I'm trying to run the RPC-1 patcher application for the Matshita UJ-857D SuperDrive (which has been already been discussed at great length in this forum) to make my drive region-free.

I downloaded ben11's patched firmware to match my drive's specs (UJ-857D-KCVB.zip), but when I run the patcher application, I hear my drive "wake up," then the application simply crashes without beginning any processes:

"The application SuperDrive Update 2.1 quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."

I see in the crash log something about "Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)" and "Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000023," but I don't know what to make of this information.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Is this patcher app incompatible with my version of OS X (10.4.11)? Do I need to disable AirPort or Bluetooth before running the app?

Thanks for any advice. I'm very excited to get this patch to work.

I suppose it is. Sorry, I didn't know if SuperDrive Update 2.1 (basis of ben11's patcher app) came before 10.4.11 or not.

I will try installing an earlier version of Tiger on an external drive and running the patcher app from there, as suggested in another thread.

Thanks, [_chef_].

Could you please link me to instructions of how to install an earlier version of Tiger on external drive, and run patch from there? I searched and can't find the relevant thread.

It should be available here in the MAC section, AFAIK.

Really nothing?

There should be some kind of error at least...
