I have a Toshiba Satellite 1400 and wish to put a SD-C2502 dvd rom, rom ver 1011 september 2001 into it.
I have booted into win xp and the drive is seen but wil not read any discs.
Can you provide the firmware link for a download.
The drive is second hand and did not come from this machine.
Thanks

Probably Backfire knows the answer which firmware would be suitable for this combination.

Which drive (firmware) came with this Laptop??

What drive was preinstalled in it and what firmware does your old drive have?

The old drive was a sd-c2502. The same rev and year.
The tray was ripped out tearing the ribbon cable which I think shorted out to the case because it fails to work at all in the unit.
When I put the "new" one in it was seen as a new device back wont read.

have to question being second hand, if the drive is not faulty, try booting from it, or go into safemode and see if the drive reads

I have done some more research and I believe the firmware version I need is 1313.
I bought the drive on ebay and the seller confirms that it was working but he can't remember from which notebook it came.
It won't boot from the drive even from safe mode. I can eject the tray and when a disk is put in the disc icon flashes onto the screen but the window keeps asking to put a disk in.

Please remember that you cannot boot from an optical drive you wanna flash. ;)

That's what I believe I have to do for it to work in the Toshiba.
Does this create a problem?
Is the firmware available?

Hi guys,

First of all, I am extremely grateful to you moderating and gathering info on the matter. I've even registered to confirm my thank you for your help. I am successfully re-flashed the wrong firmware which I put to my SD-C2502 Toshiba DVD-ROM in the Toshiba Satellite, and after all got the feeling that if you haven't use hammer yet towards that hardware it is fixable, just don't panic. At that happy moment the initial question arises back: why the Toshiba DVD-ROM in a Toshiba laptop is unable to recognize DVD's but just a CD's, and is this fixable? Any clues, hints, or links I may miss would be cordially appreciated. Thanks y'all!

You should not crosspost on the matter, your drive seem to have a defective DVD part, nothing else.
