The Firmware Page

I have a Dell Inspiron 1526. It originally shipped with a PBDS 8W1P DVD+-RW DL burner. I had some issues with it burning too many DVD+R coasters. I finally convinced Dell to replace it with a TSST TS-L632H DVD-RAM burner. I've tried to use the RPC1 patched Dell D300 firmware. The main issue is that just recently I've burned five coasters while using the RPC1 Dell D300 firmware.

The newer Dell D500 DVD-RAM burner firmware seems to be much more stable as the previous RPC1 Dell D300 firmware didn't even label the drive as a DVD-RAM in Windows Explorer. I'm using HP DVD+R media in case it makes any difference. The image I'm having trouble burning is the Project OSx86 Kalyway 10.5.2 ISO Image. I have tried using ImgBurn & Roxio Creator LE 9.0 after applying Dell's patch & it failed to burn properly in both applications.

Sorry: I accidentally mis-posted it in the wrong section. I realize now that I should've posted it into the DVD+/DVD-/DVD-RAM forum. If someone could please move the thread for me that would be a big help.

Please post the MID/mediacode of the HP DVDs and try to burn with Imgburn.
Also please post a logfile here.

What utility do I use to get the MID/mediacode? I'll upload a log only after I know which utility to use first.

You could use nero cd dvd speed to get the MID, or dvdinfo.

Just post the log from Imgburn, if possible.

Some suggestions:

1. The used media is not thebest, try to use Verbatim.
2. Don't choose MAX SPEED. 4x is what I would choose here.
3. "I 22:07:35 DVD+R Reserve Track: Yes" You think this should be enabled?
4. Does this image have an HFS partition?
5. Defrag the source drive!!!

I don't have any Verbatim DVD+R media. Would an Apple Brand DVD-R work well instead?

You can only try.

Ok: I turned down the burn speed to 4X & I disabled the DVD+R Reserve Track option & was able to successfully burn the Kalyway_10.5.2_Intel_And_AMD.iso image to a HP DVD+R media. The burn failed to verify though & ImgBurn later reported a SCSIStatus: 0x02 error. How do I get rid of the error & convince ImgBurn to re-run the verification routine?

What about reading the Imgburn FAQ?

Ok: Actually I did try defragmenting my hard drive immediately before attempting to burn the DVD ISO Image & this time it worked. I'm currently using Dell's official D500 firmware if it makes any difference. I'm not sure if it would have worked with the RPC1 patched D300 firmware I downloaded. I'm just curious: is anyone planning to patch the new version of Dell's firmware D500 to RPC1 too?
