I am not very experienced with firmware, so please bear with me.

I have an dell inspiron 1521 notebook which came with vista. Recently I reformatted to xp. Now when using nero to burn cds I experience a very slow writing speed. Not sure if this is just how slow the drive writes (doubt it cuz it took about 20-25 mins) or if I am lacking some sort of driver. If you need any more info about the situation/drive please let me know, as again I am not experienced with this topic.

Thank you in advance,

Sean

go into device manager, under ata/atapi controllers, right click on the channel of your device, choose properties, advanced, and make sure the drive is running in Ultra DMA mode

Ok so I went into device manager and found these folders under the ATA/ATAPI heading

1) Primary IDE Channel
2) Primary IDE Channel
3) Ricoh memory stick controller
4) Ricoh MMC host controller
5) Ricoh xD-picture card controller
6) Secondary IDE channel
7) Secondary IDE channel
8) Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller
9) Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller

Im not sure which channel my device is on, but all the channels i checked are set to DMA if available rather than the only other setting "PIO only"

any further help?
