I just bought a PIONEER DVD-115D to put in my Mac Pro. I want to flash it to RPC 1. I have already found the new version of DVRFlash and I got through the Firmware pages the two exe A0814000.113
A0814001.118 I will need to put in the same folder than DVRFlash to get the flashing done. The official revision firmware I have found through the System Information of my Mac Pro is 1.18. I suppose the first exe referrred to a 1.13 revision ???. Do I have to put only the second in the folder to flash the drive to RPC 1 or do I need to put the other one also ?????????? Many thanks for your help..........

These firmware files are no "exe" files, they are binaries.
Please use DVRFlash with option -v or just execute dvrflash and post the output here.

OK but do I need to execute DVRFlash with the two binaries or only the second one as the actual firmware revision is at 1.18 and not 1.13 ??????
I dont want to brick it with a stupid move............!!!!!!!!!

hi the 1.13 file is the kernel, you do not need this, if you have a 115D, please as chef has posted, post the output from DVRFlash -v command, this way we can see what firmware you have, from what you say, i presume this is a standard pioneer drive with firmware, and not apple firmware.

Exactly, Puma, I have a standard Pioneer 115D's 1.18 firmware as told by System Info on my Mac Pro (and also DVD Info X which I run before). The Apple firmware came with the Sony Optiarc drive in the other slot. But I want the RPC 1 firmware change only with the Pioneer drive. Will the -v command give another important info you absolutely need for this procedure ???????? Many thanks for your help.

I went to the Terminal and I entered the normal instructions of the DVDFlash readme (DVDFlash is in a folder on the Finder with the firmware file) :
cd Desktop/DVRFlash
./DVRFlash -f PIONEER A0814001.118
and I go this reply :

Nothing happened after this message. What am I doing wrong ??? Do I have to enter again the same command line starting with -f ?????? As I am not a "Terminal Pro", I am wandering what went wrong. Thanks for help.

try this procedure, recommended for users will little knowledge of terminal and command line, thanks to _mike_ for the guide

From the Finder window, drag DVRFlash into the terminal window. The complete path to DVRFlash will appear, followed by a space.
Now type "-f PIONEER " without the quotes; mind the spaces before and behind PIONEER.
Drag the firmware file into the terminal window. If you got two files (firmware and kernel), drag them both, one after the other. The path(s) to the firmware file(s) will appear in the term window.
(That way you created a command line with complete pathes, that works, no matter where all your files are.)
NOW press the Return key to start it all and it should work

I just put PIONEER in "Quotes" as recommended by another poster in a french forum, in the first command line..........Strange how little things are making a difference !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have verified with DVD X INfo that the drive is in RPC 1 mode.

May I ask 1 question. I see this was done successfully on an Intel MacPro. Would it also be possible to do the same on a PPC Powermac?

Hi Newbie here, I have the same drive (Pioneer DVR-115D) in my PPC PowerMac G4 running Tiger, I've followed the the instructions in these previous posts to the letter and I am also getting a success message after running the DVRflash process however, when I check with DVD info X it still says RPC-2.

I downloaded the firmware and unpacked the .exe file to be left with the firmware file put them in the same folder then followed the terminal instructions above, still locked.

Can anyone help?

I worked it out, I didn't have the Kernel and the Firmware, just the firmware.

this forum has been great in helping me work out how to do this =D>
