What exactly "does not work"?

Did the drive come with the Laptop?
If yes, then a firmware can and will not help.

Also, this is a REQUEST and belongs into the REQUEST section.

It cannot eject. When I eject it with a pin and place DVD or CD it cannot play or open them.
Whey I double click DVD icon in My Computer it always says "Please insert disk into drive ...".
I don't know if it came with the laptop because I got it used.
I thought new firmware will help. Maybe owner before me messed something with it.

Is it possible to post the info from the sticker/drive label here?

Also, how is the drive seen in the BIOS and also in the devicemanager?
Have you tried to clean the drive yet?

What exact media have you tried with? CD-R, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-R ...etc. What content is on them?

No, I would have to open it completely and I am not that good with laptops.

In BIOS here is my DRIVES I/O information:

HDD = Primary IDE(1F0H/IRQ14)
CD-ROM = Secondary IDE(170H/IRQ15)

There is no more info on this in BIOS.

In device manager:

DVD/CD-ROM Drives: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-C2612
