Hi all! Sorry if this already have ben talked about. But, I want to buy the LG GGW-H20L blu ray burner /hd dvd reader and read on this site that the firware: LG/HLDS GGW-H20L - YL02 has been released.

Does this include a bypass of the RPC-2 region control that is set in the firmware of the burner?
Or how does the firmware's on this site work?

Thank you for the help :)
Mikael

Nope! Official firmwares are always RPC2.

Okey thank you for the quick response.
However do you happen to know if a modified firmware is available or if someone is working on that?

Regards,
Mikael

well if something goes wrong, it still is possible to reflash to the "original" version?

In general does every BD burner / player have the firmware region coding? In software mode in Windows , it's more "risk free" to edit...

Region Coding is always there for any DVD and BD drive.

That would be 6x write speed, right? What BDR media have you burned at 6x?

BTW, I've burned a Ridata BD-R 2x disk (id RITEK-BR1-00) with my GGW-H20L (firmware YL02) without problems at 2x in 42m 50s (21.85 GB).

You can buy these disks as low as $7.6 each one.

AFAIK, only Sony & Verbatim 4x BD-R will allow you to burn at 6x with this drive.
But it depends really on the revision & MID of the media (!).

Why did he say in this review that those 21 min Verbatim and Panasonic writing times are 6x speed? That would be 4x, right?

6x is just the end write speed, but not the average write speed. Have a look at the write speed graph. Writing starts at 2.6x, ends at 6.04x, average write speed is 4.52x. Even cdspeed displays CLV, this is CAV writing.

LG never released a DOS flasher package for the GGW series. There is a DOS flasher for a different drive which probably is compatible, but in the worst case such a try kills your drive.

Thx Ala42,

My drive can't read HD-DVD since last firmware (1.03). I would like to return in 1.02.
CD, DVD and BD - OK!
I try Mtkflash, and nothing (stop without read).
I search another DOS flash.

There is no GGW-H20L 1.02 firmware. Post exact drive name and firmware revision.

So you flashed YL03 and HD reading does not work anymore ? Flash the previous firmware.

Which firmware was initially on the drive, which did you flash that started the trouble ? Can you flash the trouble making firmware again ?
