Ok...thanks..
Yes, dual layer has a high cost (for now), but at least we get a drive that we can consider future proof (for now)
At 180

Dracul wrote: The specs on LG website are a bit confusing Can this drive write to Dual Layer Blu Ray discs? Yes, it can. 4x max for BD-RE SL and 2x max for BD-RE DL media. There is something wrong with the specs: Quote: General Blu Ray DVD Writer with Blu Ray & HD DVD playback and LightScribe Technology Write Speed BD-R (SL/DL) 4x, BD-R (SL LTH 16x, DVD+RW (SL/DL) 8x, DVD+R DL 2.4x, DVD+R 16x , DVD-RAM 5x, DVD-RW (SL/DL) 6x, DVD-R DL 4x, CD-R 40x, CD-RW 24x
BD-R SL (HTL) should be 6x max.
BD-R SL (LTH) is 2x max.
I never have seen DVD+RW DL media, and I'm not sure if that drive can deal with DVD-RW DL anyway...

Anybody else having problems getting this drive to write BD-RE discs at the rated speed (x2) ?
I have tested the Verbatim BD-RE disc shipped with the retail drive with Nero 8, CD/DVD Speed & Cyberlink'sPower2Go and they all take 90 mins to wtie a full disc of data (22GB). At x2 this should complete in less than 45 minutes.

PS This is a SATA connected drive so there is nothing to configure and DMA is not applicable.

This is correct for 2x BD-RE media it is because of the automatic verification involved with the writing to the re-writable media this can be turned off in "ImgBurn" which will decrease the burning time a little, but I am unsure with Nero.
I am not 100% familiar with the writing method but believe this to be the reason.

Yes, Flash is right on track!
The reason is the automatic verify we also know from DVD-RAM.
