Unfortunately I did not discover this wonderful site until after I had upgraded my MBP from 10.4 to 10.5. Now that I've upgraded to 10.5 the firmware updates provided do not work.
I was curious if there were any plans to make these apps compatible with 10.5. Specifically I'm looking for the update for the MATSHITA UJ-857: Firmware Revision: HAEA. You guys have done a wonderful job fixing all the drives, Thanks.

I assume you mean the firmware update app doesn't work. While we're on the topic, I flashed my drive prior to upgrading to Leopard, though now it seems Region X no longer works. Anyone know if there will be an updated version for Leopard?

Yeah the firmware update app. If there is another way to update the firmware, a way that is compatible with leopard, that would be great too.

@ Jezza
You're absolutely right, Region X doesn't work anymore with Leopard. We'll have to wait until Oxced or someone comes with a solution. In the meantime, VLC works flawlessly with Leopard and your RPC-1 drive. Better than nothing!

Hi everyone,
WOW a LOT has happend since I was last on the forums this Spring. First of all I would like to shout a LOUD THANK YOU to Ben11 and everybody else connected with the RPC1.org !
So I can "finally" unlock my macbook. Thanks ALOT ! I've gotten a copy of leopard was wondering how much it would affect me after my flashing?
As I understand it I would have to use VLC until region X has been updated but it shouldn't do anything to the firmware of the DVD drive. Since I use .avi quite alot VLC is fine with me!
Are these assumptions correct or is there anything else I should be aware of? What could I be missing?
Also I'm sure people are already bugging the hackers/developers/admins about a new version of Region X. I won't but would like to offer any kind of help I could provide. Yes, this is almost zero but I wouldn't mind testing beta software or sending some important debugging logs to you guys. I also understand the risk of alpha/beta software and wouldn't complain if something bad happened since I regularly backup.
So again thank you for all your efforts, hopefully getting region X leopard ready isn't too much of a hassle and if I can be of any help, just drop me a line.
Phillyman

The latest 1.1.3UB version of Region X works for me on Leopard+Intel. You can dowload it here.

Hi
@geejii: Thanks for the tip. I had that version of region X but had read somewhere that it didn't work with leopard. Lazy person that I am I didn't even try.
Thanks for setting me straight.
Cheers and have a nice weekend,
Phillyman

Hi There,
Tried firmware listed on: http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=43082
My drive is FQ3T
I am running Leopard on MacBookPro 17"
When trying to run the "Update FQ3T to region free" I get the following message: "OS X Version Not Compatible. The version of OSX you are running (10.5) is not compatible with this firmware update. Update OS X and try again"
Well I'm running the most updated version of OS X, so I need some help from you guys.
Save this DVD Rom? Or Gotta throw it away?
Many Thanks,
Kal

I updated to Leopard on a new machine not knowing that RC1 firmware existed now.
Any chance ben11 can help us out soon?

Hi,
I too upgraded to Leopard, but I've figured out a way to make the firmware updater work. Just go in disk utility, partition, and add a volume (+). then install tiger and run the firmware updater

Also, boot from an external firewire disk with Tiger

Like others I found that RegionX doesn't actually change the region under Leopard (though no errors are generated you can see from the file/get disc info/regions menu of DVD Player that it hasn't worked). It will seemingly work though if you delete the preference file first for the DVD player before running RegionX. Preference file is here: users/[yourusername]/library/preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist
It seems that when you run DVD player with the next DVD it creates a new preference file with default preferences and your newly selected RegionX region.
Now someone out there must now be able to do a quick mod of RegionX to get it to work seamlessly under Leopard.....

read on some french forum that you have to delete the [User/(your name)/Library/Application Support/DVD Player] folder and the .plist file for regionx to work on leopard.
that works for me anyway...

According to these:
Code: http://www.hardmac.com/news/2007-12-05/#7514 Code: http://forum.hardmac.com/index.php?s=4d4e522cf05abf4f479a0e37118ddb24&showtopic=2775&pid=6337&st=0&#entry6337
Quote: The solution is very simple.
It suffices to delete the
~/Library/Application Support/DVD Player directory and the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist file.
After running Region X again, and modifying the zones, DVD Player will now be aware of the new settings.

I've followed all the directions, and still no luck. I give up.
My drive is:
Vendor: Matshita
Model: DVD-R UJ-846
Firmware: FQ3T, RPC-2 (region locked), State is PERMANENT, 4 vendor
resets left, 0 region change left, Region 1
Any advice???
Since my drive seems a bit noisy by now anyways, I'd like to buy a new one and install it myself.
Anyone out there know of the best product to buy? That will never give me region problems again?
I'm macbook pro 17" on leopard.
Many thanks,
Kal

i think once it is locked there is no way to unlock it. you should have flashed it before using the last change. i'm 99% sure of this info

Trying to flash Matshita DVD-R UJ-85J FCQA under 10.5.1 but Update FCQA to region free.app will not run - error message that it is wrong version OS X - is there a later version of the app anywhere that will run under 10.5.1?
Thanks, Bryan

Looks like a Catch 22 for Intel iMAC Leopard users - we can't use the software under 10.5, neither can we set up a Tiger partition because the Tiger DVDs will not boot on our iMACs> Mmmm? Sure could use some innovative ideas.

What is the problem to either flash the drive in another computer or install Tiger on a second partition?
There were already info posted that are some tools are available to achieve that.
