The Firmware Page

Hi,

For some reason my drive just stopped working, and did not show under My Computer. I found a page that suggested deleting Windows registry entries, which I did without backing them up. Yes, I know this was not smart. Then, I ran a CDGONE registry patch. Now, my drive shows up, but it is not working correctly. It is listed under My Computer, but, for example, when I put a CD in the drive that has data on it, Windows recognizes it as a blank CD.

I'm not sure if this is a software-based problem, or if the drive is actually damaged. As a side note, the drive is also not working correctly in Linux, as I dual boot running. I'm not sure if that matters or not though.

As I said though, I was wondering if perhaps this could be a firmware problem, since I changed the registry, or if perhaps the drive is actually damaged. Can anyone offer me any advice?
