Hi All

I'm new to the forum but desperately need some experienced help.

I have an OEM Mecer BCO 5232IM Combo which has been struggling to read some DVD's so I checked the firmware version - it was 0054.

Found the combo on this website and the latest firmware available was 0059.

Anyway I disconnected my other drive from my system and proceeded with the flashing upgrade. The upgrade I downloaded was MCU Flash, Version 2.73. for IDE 5232CO. The DEVICE REVISION identified when I opened the software was 0054. The procedure appeared to run fine but when it completed the DEVICE REVISION showed BOOT. I was asked to restart my computer , which I did but my Combo was dead.

The green light flashed when my computer was booting up, the Combo was still recognised both in My Computer and when I went into the Device Manager.
But it will not eject or do anything. Stone dead.

Can someone please give me something to try, I am sure I will be looking for a New optical Drive - pity as this one is only 1 month old.

Have you tried flashing to 0059 again? Usually, the BOOT mode is meant to help you in case of a misflash.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did try again but got the same thing.

I also un-installed the drive and then did a cold reboot. System recognised that it had found new hardware - but still very dead.

Could the flash file I downloaded be corrupt? I have searched for some other versions but cannot find anything.

Hi Coaster

Thanks for the help. Got the firmware off this site.

I have gone to the BTC site and got their latest as well. But still very lifeless.

As far as correct firmware is concerned, I am now abit worried as on the unit there is a label with model number, serial number, date of manufacture etc and also F:L054. The firmware I got for this exact model number does not have the preceeding letter L, just 0059.

I think I must accept its a bin case.

You could try contacting BTC through this site: http://www.drvupdate.com/

They have Flash Recovery options for older drives, but none listed for yours. They might be able to send you something if you ask.
