I am repairing a JVC DRM-1SLB set top dvd recorder. Inside it has the Hitachi/LG GMA-4020B drive with firmware P106. I checked the firmware page for firmware. However it only lists firmwares A105 to A109.

What's the deal with the P106? Is this custom firmware? When I hook the drive to a pc it works well enough, but on the JVC-DRM1 it seems to take a long..... time to recognise media.

I was wandering if the newer firmwares would work, but with no return path,
I'm holding off the firmware update.

Anyone out there seen this firmware?

Yes, it surely is a custom firmware. I haven't seen this firmware before.

Hello, i have jvc dr-m1sle with the same gma-4020b with the firmware p106

the burner dont read, and im tryng to have another lg, id like to know if i can do a backup of the firware p106 to put in another gma-4020b without custom firmware.

other option is if someone know if anothers lg are compatible or know if the original firmware of hitachi-lg go in the jvc.

sorry for my english, thanks.

this LG firmware is not available, its specific for the Recorder, there is also no backup utility that will enable you to dump it from the drive

Then the unic solution is try other gma-4020b with normal firmware ,then if dont go change the mainboard of the p106 firmware and put in the other burner lens (the lens are the problem, can read cd and can't read dvd)

Ok, i can say that the jvc go with the original 4020b firmware, isnt necesary to put the original firmware of the unit with jvc firmware.
