Hello,

I have a number of patched Apple firmwares for Matshita drives:

UJ-825 firmware revision "DAM5"
UJ-835E firmware revision "GAND"
UJ-835F firmware revision "GEND"
UJ-835F firmware revision "GFND"
UJ-835F firmware revision "GGND"

as used in various PPC macs.

The only difference between the patched and the normal firmware are
changes for RPC1 (region free) operation.

I've previously posted some other patches for the UJ-857/857D
(revisions HAEA, HBEA, KBVB, KCVB), usually used in the Intel based
Macbooks, in the thread http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=38176

Download links:

http://rapidshare.com/files/51214875/UJ ... 5.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/51215806/UJ ... D.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/51216440/UJ ... D.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/51216900/UJ ... D.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/51217422/UJ ... D.zip.html

The zip archives contain a "README!" and two updater applications.
One to flash the patched and another that can restore the original
firmware to the drive.

Usual caution about firmware updates: They do have the capacity
to go wrong and leave your drive useless. Use at your own risk!

In addition the above are new and due to lack of the exact
hardware to test all cases I have not been able to exercise
each one. Having said that I do believe they are fine.

I'm not connected with rpc1.org itself, I'm only a regular forum
user who had success in patching the drive in my own Mac and
learned a certain amount of details of the Matshita firmware in the
process.

I think it would be helpful for the community if anyone who does
try these would consider posting some feedback.

Very good work, ben11!

Thanks for getting into this and releasing the patched firmwares.

The Matshita sticky got updated. ;)

Grrr! I swapped my Matshita UJ-835 for a Pioneer DVR-K06 a few weeks ago, as I assumed there will never be a RPC1 firmware for the Matshitas, and now there is!

But I guess I should keep the Matshita drive in my closet (and the patched firmwares on my harddrive), because there have been a few reports of the Pioneers breaking down after burning a CD or DVD.

Where have you seen such reports? I doubt it, honestly.

Even the Matshita would be RPC1 now, it is a crappy drive nevertheless........

There you go, right here on this forum:
http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=3 ... ht=dvr-k06
Also, plenty of similar reports here:
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/feedback/pio ... lures.html

And I'm experiencing the same "drive sleep" problem that a lot of others have:
http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=3 ... ht=dvr-k06

So DVR-K06 isn't such a great drive either (at least, on Macs), unfortunately.

A "drive sleep" has nothing to do with the drive anyway and is not related to burning abilities even more.

Also this is way OT.

And never forget that people replaced their drive for an Matshita, and NO ONE will give a warranty for such own replacements.

It is, let's leave this thread to people's experience with the patched Matshitas (I'm too eager to see if it works). I'll answer you in a separate thread, if you wish to continue the discussion about Pioneers.

UJ-825 - It works! I've waited three years for this!

Kudos, Ben11.

I have a mini at home, with a UJ-846. You mentioned in the UJ-857 thread that the hack in question might apply across the whole 8xx series - is there a reasonable chance that the 845/6 are in line for unlocking as well?

Thanks again.

I hope you can explain at some stage how to modify a RPC2 Matshita firmware to make it freezone.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the hard work, ben11! I've been waiting for this - and now managed to flash one of my powerbooks g4 ))) unfortunately, the G4 12'' UJ-825 has a DAND revision, but i guess one can't have everything )

This is beyond awesome that you are doing this! :D
Any word on the firmware flash for the Matshita UJ-845e?

The region lock as been a real pain-in-the *** for me as a global traveler who likes to rent DVD's wherever I go. The work you guys do is angelic in my opinion.

You may have answered this but I did not see it, but do the firmware downloads include step-by-step instructions? Or is there a "generic" way to flash any Matshita / Apple drive and a page somewhere telling us how?
Anything to increase our chances of a successful flash. :)

Thanks again!

I am absolutely gobsmacked! After all these years with an UJ-825 that I never used, suddenly I have a RPC-1 drive. Unbelievable! Many, many thanks.

When that said, Great work Ben11

Hello,

I have some more RPC1 firmwares; but as I said before, although I prepare them carefully these haven't been tested yet. If you do try them any feedback is very valuable, as usual.

http://rapidshare.com/files/54074523/UJ ... A.zip.html

http://rapidshare.com/files/54076326/UJ ... D.zip.html

http://rapidshare.com/files/54077392/UJ ... 2.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/54078371/UJ ... U.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/54078923/UJ ... J.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/54080219/UJ ... T.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/54080809/UJ ... E.zip.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/54081699/UJ ... E.zip.html

During at least the next couple of weeks I'm not going to have time to look into firmware, and infact I may not even have chance to react to any feedback here - so if you ask me something I might not be able to be very responsive!

Many thanks to ben11 !!!
This was really fast...

Could not really test, I've only zone 2 DVDs by now but DVDInfo says:
Code:
  Vendor: MATSHITA
   Model: DVD-R   UJ-825
Firmware: DBN7
          RPC-1 (region free)

So I suppose it's unlocked, even if it asked me to choose a zone just after the firmware patching. So I confirm, UJ825-DBN7 is OK. Great job dude!

Thanks for all.
