yesterday I made the mistake of upgrading firmware to a UJDA720 that is in a toshiba laptop. the bios no longer reconizes the drive and the only way to get it to work in windows is to hybernate first. the original firmware was 1.00, and I flashed it to 1.03 but I did not read the small print to stay away from it for toshiba's. Thing is I think I might have a good dump, and I can stick the drive in a IBM thinkpad I have. So whats the best way to get it back right assuming I have a good dump. do I need to do anything with the dump to make it a firmware file suitable for drvloadc?
and lastly, my thinkpad has no floppy, so I might try using the iso for the cd image of the autoinstaller. if someone would give me a step by step I sure would appreciate it.
I just want to know the best way to takle this, and the steps to do so.
(if I dont have a good dump (tb_100.720) where can i get one?)

Is the autopatcher iso the way to go on this one since I dont have a floppy drive in the ibm? do I need to do anything with my dump first to prepare it as firmware? any help would be appreciated...

if the dump was successful, you don't need to do anything else to it

ok, I booted the ibm thinkpad from a bootcd I obtained from bootdisk.com
because the ibm has no floppy drive. Then I put in the disk I burnt with drvloadc on it and type: DRVLOADC /M TB_100M.720
TB_100M.720 is the name of my dump file. its 1024mb in size.
then the Mitshita screen pops up and just sits there with a blinking curser on the left. Am I doing something wrong?

are you booting from another device and then connecting the dead drive just before flashing?

No I am booting from the device that I want to flash. Currently i will boot in a ibm that I have. but its from a toshiba satellite that will not reconize it since it was flashed.
the way I understand it is the toshiba's bios is set up for the drive to be a secondary master, and my flash of the ujda 1.03 [*Profanity*] it up.

That cannot work.

hmmm, I see. Well is there a way for the files to goto memory for flashing. Doesnt the mpatch autopatcher send the files to memory? would that work? if not, is there a way to boot from a pcslot flashcard or something?

you would need to create a bootable usb thumb drive or some external device, depending if your motherboard supports it

I have usb port on the ibm, yes. but usb is not listed in the bios as a boot option. Does this mean there is no way to boot from usb?

if its not listed in the bios, then your pretty much buggered, i can only think of creating a partition on the hard drive and using that, but this could take alot to set up and also cause problems to your current system and booting

I am not worried about [*Profanity*] anything up, have all ready done enough of that, lol. I have plenty of hard drives lying around so its not a prob.
So would my next step be to install win98se on a hard drive so I can boot to dos from there and do what I need to do?
I have an ide converter to hook a 2.5 to my desktop, if this helps. I have no connectors for the ujda drive though.
curious, is there some boot files that I could just put on a blank 2.5 hdd from my desktop to boot the ibm from real quick?
point me in the best direction my friend, thanks

Flash the Toshiba UJDA720 with IBM 1.03 firmware
to correct many many issues with reading DVD's
and then modify the DVD connector to make it work.

You can get an ide to cdrom connector from ebay
and hook up any cd/dvd to a pc to re-flash it.
I flashed my toshiba ujda720 with 1.03 ibm firmware
and soldered 2 small points on the interface connector
to make it work in my toshiba.

You can hook up a laptop hd to a pc as well and format it...
next make it a bootable drive with sys x:, etc.
and copy all the .cab files to a folder,
this will allow you to reinstall win98 from laptop using hd

I can make a pic, sure
http://i17.tinypic.com/4hbwv47.jpg
This forces it to be secondary master,
I believe IBM is either slave or csl.
In any case firmware 1.03 is much better

I would definately recommend everyone flashing their toshiba ujd720
to the ibm 1.03 firmware. I did it years ago
Before i had issues reading certain ritek 4x/8x dvd's,
and not being able to boot from them - now it works!
