I have a Lg combo drive(HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N ver. OT05) for my laptop .
Specs: read speed and burn speed for cds: 24x (max.)
read speed for dvds 8x (max.)

I notice that when i am trying to store a cd or a dvd in Alcohol or Nero by creating an image the drive does not read to the maximum or even close. Even when the cd is a 52x cd or even when the dvd is 8x. For example when I am creating an image of a 8x dvd in Alcohol the read speed is shown as 0.1x to about 0.5x instead of about 2x, 4x or even higher. And because of this I had a movie that I stored and it took me about 2hrs just to store it which would take about 10mins or so if the drive was spinning faster. The problem is that it have the capability to read faster but it look like seh it just choose the best reading speed I think. I even notice that when a dvd is not inserted in the drive when I open nero's disc tool utility thing it shows the current speed is 8x for a dvd. However when I insert a 8x dvd it shows the current reading speed is 3x, sometimes it shows 4x and when you try to store the dvd its not reading not even close to 3x it just stays in the 0.3x range. When I am storing a cd its the same thing, the reading speed is cut done very far and a normal 52x cd which would take about 4mins to store takes all 20mins.

The only time the drive operates at a maximum speed i notice is wen i am burning a cd it goes up to the 24x. I try to get a firmware upgrade for it but I am having trouble finding one that matches the revision. I found one that matches the exact model & version of the drive but when i open it, it is saying that it doesn't matches the revision and I should get one that matches the revision, and then it ask me if i want to continue with the upgrade even thou it doesn't have the same revision.
So do u think its safe to continue with the upgrade like how it matches the model and version of the drive even thou it doesn't have the same revision? and do u think if its flash then the reading speed would be fix?

Can someone please tell me how i can get it to operate at its maximum speed or where I can get a firmware upgrade for it please. Please help me.

ensure the drive is in DMA mode, depending upon what laptop you have, is the firmware you need
