Hi, I need your help please. I've changed my combo drive in my Notebook Toshiba Satellite A10 (SD-R2412 rom ver 1330) with another SD-R2412 (rom ver 1015) and now I have an error during the boot: IDE #1 error.
I know that this is a problem with the CSEL option but what can I do now?
Have I to upgrade the firmware of the combo?
How can I do it?
Thanks for your support!!!
A.Uberti

Yes, its the firmware which is not suitable on the new drive for your connection/setup.

You may use an ide-slimline adaptor, connect the drive to an standard ide controller and flash with the 1330 firmware which seems to work.
Probably you have to flash it in REAL DOS.

If you can boot into REAL DOS with your Laptop by using an small dos partition or an floppydisk or an usb device, you would not need the adaptor.

Otherwise, it would be something like this, I think.

Can you maybe swap the hdd and drive connections? The hdd would be unplugged, but its not necessary for flashing the drive.
After recognizing and flashing the drive you could put the hdd back there where it was (connection).

You have put the hdd back there where it was before and connected the flashed drive too?

You did update with which firmware?

I disconnected the hd and I tried to update the firmware of the combo from dos with the dos firmware for SD-R2412 rom ver 1015. Perhaps the bios of the notebook didn't see the new combo.
Sorry for my bad english..

Uh, maybe you need to try with 17xx firmware next, if you want.

Hi, the new combo works now!!!
What did I do?
I started with an external floppy (boot disk of windows 98) and with the old combo, when it ultimate the boot, I changed the combo with the new one.
After, I upgraded the firmware with the 1330 rom version (like the original one) and now I haven't the IDE 1 Error and Windows can see it.
Thanks for all, A.Uberti
