Hi ALL

Very quick few questions

Is this drive Dual Layer ?? i.e DVD Disc of 8.5 gigs can be read and written to ?? I placed a 8.5 gig disc in this drive and it thought the capacity was 600mgs

1)I own a SONY DVD RW DW-23A and I have been looking everywhere for a driver update ( last one was dated 1st July 2001 ) but I can not find one ?? deos one exist or should I keep the old driver

2) Does it need a Firmware update .. this site says that non is available

The drive works OK but I need it to burn dual layer .. will any version of Nero do this ???

I also used a Region free LtnRPC on the drive above + a SONY ROM-DDU1615 drive.... seemed pretty easy so I assume this is safe

yes this should burn DL, the drive is an oem Liteon 1653S, the driver is of no importance, they use native windows drivers.

what firmware have you on the drive now,use discinfo to find this

Ps drive region status says LOCK DETECTED ??

Does that mean that is not region free after i activated that bit of software in my first post ?? or do I need a re-boot

you have the latest firmware on the drive, would try running LtnRPC again

I am obviously not getting this free region thing ... when I hit the disable button I get a message

052400 INVALID FIELD IN CDB
RPC maybe disabled.

Then when I do the disc info it says
region status says LOCK DETECTED ??

Must be doing something wrong

make sure you have no region free software etc running when you do the check

Without an appropriate and actual burning app you cannot burn DL or any other DVD media.

What burning app do I need for this drive to burn DL ???
And what kind of region free software do I need running in the background before I do the check ?? .. opps you said NO region free running sorry ... still says it is LOCKED

Using Ri* DL media is a deadend, using other DL media than Verbatim is like playing with fire.

I Have nero burning ROM 6 ... funny I purchased 5 Blank DVD+R Verbatim TODAY ( LUCKY ME ) ... I formatted one of them , I think that might have been a mistake as it came back telling me that the capacity was 600mgs ( I used Instant Write ) to do that .. might have corrupted that disc

So is the correct method to Drop my VOB files onto the disc and let Nero sort the rest ???

"Formatting a DVD+R" makes no real sense, either you can burn something onto it or leave it.
But what has this to do with DL media?

I would suggest to not use Packet-Writing software with other than DVD-RAM media.

basically verbatim DL discs are the best you can buy, buying other cheaper discs is playing with fire

Quick Question

Region free+CSS .. well that speaks for itself and it is clear what it does
If I put a disc that has a locked Region in my drive and this software boots up .. I assume the disc becomes region free

If I now put a blank Disc into my burnable drive .. will it be a region free destination .. i.e will the burnable drive look at the source disc after Region free+ CSS has looked at it ?? or wiill it be before .. i.e no change to its output
