I would like to find a drive that i can use to burn backups of my DVD's. My kids watch a ton of my movies, and i hate the idea of them scratching the hell out of them...ive had to replace quite a few of them already because of this.
My question is more or less, what is the best drive & media combination that i can purchase to create backups of my DVD collection? The faster the better, but quality is a big issue for me.
I was looking at the Samsung SH-S182M, is this a good drive, or are there better drives for what im looking for?
I know a lot of you swear by the BENQ 1640 for DVD burning, but i havent heard much debate on the topic of DVD DL burning and why some drives and media types are better than others. If you could shed some light on this area for me I would be much obliged.
Thanks,
-Brian

If i buy the pioneer 111D, is there any specific firmware that i should flash to, or rather what is the best firmware to flash it to? Someone mentioned something about flashing it to 111L?

[_chef_] wrote: The Samsung 182 series is a really good choice but in case of DL I have not that much info about it yet. I think so far the Pioneer 111 series is the best choice for burning DL media -> Verbatim DL. I'm getting superb results with Verbatim +R DL and -R DL media here.
what firmware are you using?

I've got a 111D and everyone I know who backs up xbox360 DL games use the 111D and any DL media actually works perfect I've never had a coaster apart from when modding my own firmware to get 8x working for ricohjpn d01.
Also they are a very good price.
