Today I needed to test a DVD+R (Sony D21), recorded by NEC (don't know the model, but that's no matter), and I was shocked by the reading graph I got:
SONY D21 READ
Usually my DVR-110D gives me perfect reading curves almost in each case, but now... But I firstly thought of a very bad record, so I started C1/C2 test and got... a FINE result! (At least to be read at max speed)
Then I've tested some other recorded media and realized that that's my drive's fault, because all the tests gave me the same result (like at the first picture).
Then I started a recording test @16x using TDK 16x DVD-R (TTH02), good media, I used to get very good results with these discs.
When I saw the recording curve, I only nearly has not received a heart attack!:
TTH02 REC
Reading test:
TTH02 READ
Now the C1/C2 test:
TTH02 QUAL
2 days ago I tested a disc - everything was OK, but today the same disc is read that strange way!
The drive is only 10 months ago (is it a long term?). What's the reason? Made in China? Or some dust, so I just need to clean the drive's laser lens? Or IDE cable?... strange...

Of cource, 110 are not good scanners! But that doesn't mean I can't make sure either the disc quality is fine or not. And besides, scanning has no connection to the reading speeds. Especially in this very case. Just compare some DVD reading curves (the same drive, even the same firmware v1.37, the same good old Windooze XP SP2 , reinstalled 2 weeks ago):
8 months ago, MCC 03RG20 READING (aka Data Transfer Rate)
8 months ago, MCC004 READING (aka Data Transfer Rate)
Nowadays, TTH02 READING (aka Data Transfer Rate)
Nowadays, Sony D21 READING (aka Data Transfer Rate)
CD reading also has become like that.
Isn't that strange ? It just seems to me that I should replace the drive until November 13, because the guarantee period will be out by that day

No yet, because I don't have a cleaning disc. Shall order one tomorrow.
He-he! There are no 110 series drives at the shop I've bought this drive, only 111. Maybe I'll have a fortune to make an exchange (If the cleaning doesn't help, of cource. And if the salesmen agree to.) The only confusing thing is that the guarantee period for all DVD drives now is only 6 months (earier it was 10 months) there. Seems like the shop has losses owing to lots of buggy drives and marked this business as unprofitable, so the guarantee period is now so short. Sorry for [off-top].

The cleaning didn't help at all , neither dry, nor wet:
MCC 03RG20 Data Tranfer Rate after cleaning
It seems to me, the problem is in the rotation mechanism, but not in the optical part of the drive. What can I do else? Nothing, I feel... Just replace the drive.

optical drives also have their duty cycle or life span, their efficiency will become lower after working for serveral months or years.

The shop (m***er ****ers ) refused to replace the drive, because it's working!
I love Belarus! I adore Belarus!

I can't say I'm using it too active (some people burn about 10 or >10 DVDs PER DAY with DVR-110 and their drives are healthy and wealthy!). My average burning rate is about 0.5 or less DVDs per day! Is it too much?
