Hi, I own a GSA-4163b, and takes the same time for record a DVD of 8x or 16x.
7 minutes aprox. for a full disc.
I use Nero for record my DVDs, and it recognize the disc like they are, 8x or 16x. And when recording it say recording to 11.000 KBs or 22.000.

So, this is norma?l, maybe my PC is to slow for better record speed? or I must made a firmware update? now has the 102 version.

My PC is a Celeron 1.4 ghz, 640MB PC 100, and seagate barracuda hard disk. 7200rmp

best regards.

8x should take about 9 minutes??

I know for 16x it takes me anywhere between 5 to 6minutes to record one full disc (up to 4.36GB).

I would say the issue might be just your system's bus speeds are too slow for the data to be transfered from HD to the discs.

Since based on your specs you do have a rather old system.

It doesn't take the same time and it is normal. The fastest burners can only start at 7x max. and then shift up the speed.
No burner can override the mechanical limitations.

8x is normally 8 mins (older NECs need 9 min)
16x is between 5.30 (some LG) and 7mins.

Your drive should run in UDMA2 mode.
