Hi,

I haven't been in the loop for a couple of years, having a DVR-108D working flawlessly. This has recently died, and I need a new burner. Do DVR-111D and A11XL still limit the speed when ripping DVD movies? If so, are there utilities/firmwares that remove the rip speed limit? Is the A11XL a better choice if the 20 bucks extra is no probs?

I have no need for RPC-1 necessarily, and never want to burn faster than the firmware suggests (I only use Verbatim/Taiyo Yuden 8x media, although I suppose I can get the faster 16x speed stuff now). Can you burn at 16x and have a standalone player read no probs? Is it better to burn at 4x, 8x? Thanks.

No riplock anymore, but if you would find one you could easily defeat it with ala's wonderful MCSE tool.

8x is also my preferred dvd burn speed. Some standlones are so darn picky, they won't accept average dvd media, or media burnt faster than 8x...

Please check www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers for more info.

Thanks for the reply. Do you reckon I should go for the A11XL or the DVR-111D?

Do they have the same construction? Is "Multi-Effect Liquid Crystal Tilt Compensator" any advantage, or do they both have this? http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/computer/dvdwriters/dvra11xl/index.html

Probably no real differences that can be compared from results anyway.
Same hardware.

now i flashed 2 Pio 111D to Pio 111L using the TDB flasher, and had the same problems......

After using the Flasher for the L-Type, the flasher said: Unable to set to kernel mode. Then the FW of the drive showed as 0000.

After a second start of the flasher, the drive could be flashed (burning and flashing). After this finished, there comes a Message: Burning and flashing failed.

But the Drive is working correct, and it
