New Plex Premium firmware turned my drive into a cup holder.
I am an update junky, saw new firmware for my plexy premium (v.1.07)
I flashed my drive, rebooted and drive is now dead.dead.dead.

Plextor support said there have been no reported issues with the lastest firmware and since my drive is out of warrenty....I am basically S.O.L.
My drive had worked perfectly, for 3 years I have never had a single bad burn...I can't believe that this is coincendental drive failure. The firmware is to improve writing quality on TDK CD-R media which I use....
So I still state that new Plex firmware is a drive killer.

This unit is dead, not even seen by the BIOS, tested in a different machine also.
As well as media in drive, Plextors eject thier tray before flashing.

The plextor premium doesn't have 2year warranty? I did flash mine with 1.07 just fine. Plextor reports that the firmware update process may interfere with Intel Application Accelerator, therefore you should uninstall it before the update. I had flashed a plextor dvdr750A in a pc with intel application accelerator and update failed, but plextor had recovery firmware on the drive, so i uninstalled intel application accelerator and flashed the drive with the correct firmware.

I didnt have IAA installed, so that can't be the reason for drive failure, and my mfg date on this drive is march 2003. Even if it has a 2 year warrenty, I am s.o.l.

I finally got someone at Plextor to admit that a "limited amount of complaints" about this firmware. However they stand by the notion that their "firmware was extensively tested before release" and they are not willing to exchange my drive.
Sooooooooo.....Anybody got any ideas how I can undo the damage done. Can this drive be brought back from a bad flash? dun dun dunnnnnn.....

your warranty should be 2 years from date of purchase, not date of manufacture.
do you still have the purchase receipt ? ...

Still Plextor has easily changed my defective drive, even when it was nearing that 2 years lifespan, so I can only say good things about their customer service in Europe.
