Hello,
Perhaps my earlier question got skipped over - could someone help me please? Are there any issues between the Flat Panel iMac's Pioneer 104 drive and the "1.4" firmware you so kindly invented? Has this been tested? I have already tested for XVI in earlier firmware versions (the X227) and would be willing to do so again.
Thanks for any and all info on this matter, take care,
Josefu.

I have spent the last 2 days trying to load a rpc-1 patch to my dvr 104 drive, but with little succes, I have tried flashing it with region x but that has had no effect. The RPC-1 patch had to be loaded through OS 9 as I could get a patch for OS X. You have to excusse my ignornace but this is all very new to me and I am going slithly mad trying to fix my DVD. Can you explain how I get and port DVR Flash to OS X.

Thanks for all the great help on this forum. I am now able to play my Star Wars trilogy DVD which I bought last week in Singapore and my U2 Live in Boston from USA. It's amazing that all the pirate DVD's don't bother with the region codes....hmm is this really working??

I have two Pioneer DVR-104 drives, one external and one internal. I updated the external drive with the new OSX 1.4.0 firmware mentioned at the beginning of this thread and it works great! DVD's burn in about a third of the time that it took with Pioneer's old 1.2 firmware. My internal drive was updated about 2 years ago with X227. The new Flash firmware software doesn't seem to work with it. Is there any way I can get rid of X227 and upgrade with the new PIONEER DVR-10x Updater?

I have a DVR105 and I downloaded the flash utility, but it looks like it will slow my DVD-r to 2x from 4x with the firmware v1.33v1.33, region free + 2xDVD-R + 12xRip. (patched by Gradius and >NIL:) . Is this the case? If so it really isn't worth it to me at this point (though I might do it once I get a second newer Mac).

Hey!
Just read through the whole thread.
I have a G5 with the apple supplied Pioneer 106D.
Will flashing it allow me to read DVD+R disks? as it seems that at the moment it is restricted by the apple firmware.
All i seem to have figured out is that it will be faster/region free.. will it be able to read (write?) DVD+R?
Thanks!
revs.

Excuse my ignorace, but I'm new to the world of Apple and the last time I flashed a DVD drive was in my old PC almost 5 years ago!
Just wondering if anyone knows what model the 'Superdrive' in the new spec Powerbooks have? Is there a firmware that makes it RPC1, and does that firmware also enable DVD+DL, or are the drives incapabable?

Will this update my firmware to the "new" 1.41 version?
My SuperDrive doesn't like 4x DVD-RW's it just spits them back out and I hopeing the 1.41 firmware will correct that?

I ran the DVRflash and updated my Pioneer 106D to v1.08... (Confirmed by System Profiler)
BUT, my writer STILL will not write DVDs under OSX 10.3.8
It will write CDs and read CDs and DVDS, but not write DVDs.
Any ideas?
HELP!

I ran the X227 firmware flash almost a year ago (for my pioneer 104 Combo drive) and, other than not being able to read DVD-RW media, all has gone fairly well.
Just recently I had occasion to use Disc Utility to burn an image - and it won't recognize any media I put in my drive as writable. Every other burning application will. I'm running OS X 10.3.9.
Has anyone else had this problem? I understand that this may not neccessarily be a firmware issue.
[added] Flashed back to A227 and it's still not working. [/added]

IDE/ATAPI, USB, USB2 and FireWire drives can be updated. <snip> You can find ready-to-use kits at http://www.macetvideo.com/flashpioneerosx/flashpioneerosx.htmlThis page is in french but download links are sooo easy to find After downloading, just double click on the PIONEER DVR-10x Updater icon and follow instructions. Also see LasVegas' step-by-step guide for using DVRFlash on a Mac manually.

Commandline:
./DVRFlash -f PIONEER DVD?RW DVR-106 R6100006.105 R6100106.108
Drive Information:
Description - PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D
Firmware Rev. - A606
Firmware Date - 03/06/17
Manufacturer - PIONEER
Drive is in normal mode.
Are you sure you want to flash this drive (y/n)?
y
Switching drive to Kernel mode: Could not set Kernel mode
Done.
You may now quit this application.
IMPORTANT: It is strongly advised to REBOOT now.

System Version: Mac OS X 10.3.9 (7W98)
Kernel Version: Darwin 7.9.0
Power PC G5
Everything worked before. can no longer read DVD-R's I wrote on the same darn drive. The drive Will recognize commercial DVD's.
I rebooted. I tried running it as root from Terminal. I'm getting irritable now.
Would springing for Tiger make this go away?

Hi any help is appreciated. I have looked everywhere and not seen this listed, promise. I flashed a pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106D with DVRFlashX - Apple 106 and it reports the new firmware as X612 RPC-1 (region free) but it still is not region free. IT prompts me to change the region when a different region dvd is inserted. This drive is a Pioneer DVD-106D but is in an external FireWire enclosure. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Here is the info after running the ./DVRFlash command
Device : B:
Vendor : PIONEER
Model : DVD-RW DVR-106D
Revision : X612
Status : RPC-1 (region free)

*** PLEASE DELETE THIS POSTED IN WRONG FORUM ***
@lasvagas
Buffalo has just release the 819 firmware for the Pioneer 111 with both a kernal and normal file. DVRFlash V2.2 rejects the 111...
I have Buffalo's XL516FB firmware (A0412540.819, A0412541.819).
I am willing to test a revised version of DVRFlash...
Regards,
B-H

Question = I have a new intel MacBook Pro and am thinking about flashing a firewire pioneer 107D that I can run into the computer. I was wondering if this fix will do that. Ididn't see anything on the software that covered that. If I missed it, please point me in the right direction. As the intel machine uses a matshita DVD-R UJ-85J I'm a bit worried about attempting to flash that machine!

Hi, Havent been on the site for a couple of years. Was sure when I remembered to come back here that all my rpc-1 wishes would have been granted....alas no!
Anyway - I can't find an RPC-1 upgrade for either my CW-8123 or my DVR-109. But since my 109 still has FW 1.05, and the most recent is 1.58 I thought I'd have a go at getting that.
So...after downloading DVRFlash 2.2 and firmware 1.58, why do I get this message after agreeing to the scary statement:
Do you understand and agree to the statement above (y/n)?
y
Commandline:
./DVRFlash -f PIONEER R9100009.158 R9100109.158
Drive Information:
Description : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109
Firmware Rev : 1.05
Firmware Date : 05/01/12
Manufacturer : PIONEER
Drive is in normal mode.
Firmwares and Drive type mismatch
Continue because force option was specified
Thanks in advance.

xvi wrote: So the "drive does not eject CD/DVD" is on DVR-106 only, right? Did you try the usual things: reboot, repair authorizations, etc? Also, what OS version?
This firmware has been quite tested by PC users, so this looks more like a OS trouble.
I'd wish report of other users with same configs that updated with success, if any.
