can you first check in device manager, under ata/atapi controllers, right click the ide channel of the writer and choose properties, in advanced settings what is the drive running in?

funny you should ask that cos i have checked in there before and it as never shown the DVD burner under the ide/atapi controllers....but it's worked for ages until now.

look you can't see the burner under the ide/atapi controllers

Image

Ps....there is no tab for any Advanced under any of the ide/atapi drivers at all.

that is ok, you never usually see the name of the burner there just the ide channels, would delete everything under the ata/atapi and restart the pc. also use nero info tool and see under configuration and see what the drive is running, DMA or PIO

sounds like the discs are of poor quality, plus i have my doubts that your pioneer was in dma mode before unistalling the ata/atapi controllers etc.
