Exactly! I just found out about this now also, sorry!
How is the general public meant to know all this then? :?
Pioneer is revisiting the -R +R +RW -RW +RW SL DL alphabet soup with their MODEL NUMBERS now. :x

For the sake of completeness I must now add the European DVR-111C LightScribe (not LabelFlash DVR-111L Japan) to the RIDICULOUS list in my previous post to stay on good terms with .de and european folks

From www.f-m-shop.de
ETA 25.04.06 59,94euro DVD WRITER -/+R/RW PIONEER DVR-111C
ETA 25.04.06 59,94euro DVD WRITER -/+R/RW PIONEER DVR-111C-BK

Some of that site's links to its own articles on the DVR-111C give 404 URL Not Found errors :!:

8O :? :x    :?: :!:   <-- TO Pioneer :!:

I am seriously thinking about boycotting DVR-?11? drives altogether from a patching standpoint as well! Come on Pioneer!!! A lot of people, myself included, do not buy drives UNTIL there are REGION FREE solutions for them. I reckon all firmware patchers generate GOOD SALES for the company's drives being patched, whether they (the Company) like to admit it or not.

FYI DSE in Australia had talks with Pioneer last week and they will carry the retail version when it's.
I'll try to find out an exact date for us Aussies

Cheers,

Hey, I just don't understand. 111D shouldn't write DVD-RAM, correct?

If so, what's that?
Quote:
The brand new Pioneer DVR-111D 16x Writer, Dual Layer at 8x and of course 16x to DVD-/+R
NOW IN STOCK
...
# Write Speed DVD-RAM 5x Zone CLV (6.92 MB/sec)
# 3x Zone CLV (4.15 MB/sec)
# 2x Zone CLV (2.77 MB/sec)

And the front panel of the drive has the MultiRecorder logo. 8O
Is is a mistake or not?

bigpockets information at fault, no dvd ram burning, doubt that is the correct picture of the drive you get, be just the usual plain bezel

I upgraded my DVR-111D to DVR-A11XL successfully. (PIO_ADV)
the f/w is TDB one...

But my dvr-111 can't upgrade to dvr-a11xl? Any body try TDB A11 f/w on DVR-111 (bulkpack version) ???

Ya, I just got my 111d from newegg and flashed it with the 111 firmware. Looks like it works. Supposed to write DVD-ROM, but I have not tried it. I went ahead and wrote to a Ritek DL that my 108 would not make (2nd layer) correctly and that worked. Not bad for 37 bucks - cheaper than tossing out the DL disks I have around that the 108 would not write to reliably.
Any advantages to the A11XL as opposed to the 111 firmware? There are too many model names :?

To say the truth: those DL media is crap! Perform a quality scan and you'll be shocked.

This trouble mostly comes from interfering IDE drivers.

I know, but at least they write and play. I can't perform a *quality* scan anyway, I did not think pioneer drives could scan that well. :?

I sure do hope Pioneer improves the firmware on this model as the burning speed seems a tad slower than my A08 I just took out of this box. It also seems a little noisier too compared to the A08.

An A08 is the XL retail version with the HONEYCOMB design. A 111 drive is a standard drive...
