I have a Pioneer 110D drive flashed with that new 8.37 firmware that makes the drive a 110 or whatever.

Reason for flashing is that no matter what 16X media i use, it ALWAYS burns at 12x. I normally only used DVD-R medie and I cant make any of it write at 16x. I've drive Ridata, Memorex, Verbatium etc. All 16x certified but always 12x.

I've checked the dma modes etc but still nothing.

Anyone else posted anything else on this issues or know why its doing this?

16x Verbatim eg. should burn at 16x. Where does it say it burned only at 12x?

Ridata and Memorex are average & low quality media.

In my burning software. For example... If I go grab a DVD out of my movie collection, rip it to my hdd using DVD Decrypter or something to an image file then try to burn the image file to disc using pretty much any 16x certified media, the fastest speed I can pick is always 12x.

I've used the newest version of NERO, the newest version of Padus Discjuggler, used the inturnal burning software contained in DVD Decrypter etc, all with the same 12x results.

I only get 12x on the Verbatium 16x's too :(

I figured it was a setting but everythings setup right on the computer and in my software.

I've yet to try any DVD+R media. I generally stick to DVD-R because of compatibility issues with my home DVD player but I'm hoping this newer firmware with its bitesetting helps my player to work better with +R although thats another issue.

Maybe I'll pick up some 16x +R media and see what write speeds I get with that.

I do NOT believe in or will EVER make Nx4ALL media speed hacks or bitsetting on DVD+RW etc. for educated and proven reasons.

PIONEER do EXTENSIVE tests on THEIR burners in THEIR LABS. So what is in their OFFICIAL media tables is GUARANTEED to work as RELIABLY as possible in specific firmwares. They should know best as THEY designed the drive(s) and write ALL firmwares for them, be it Pioneer or OEM firmwares.

I only believe in removing UNNECESSARY or INAPPROPRIATE firmware limitations :)

Peace

What what exactly does ANY of this have to do with you or your firmware? I think you need to re-read my posts. What was I ungrateful about? None of this had a damn thing to do with your firmware :|

I don't remember saying yeah I flashed my drive with nullz firmware and now its broken or it only burns at 12x or its missing feature I want etc. I just happened to upgrade to your firmware to see if it fixed my issue with the write speeds.

It was an issue out of the box so to speak.

This issue wasnt caused by flashing your 8.37 firmware. I'm not blaiming your firmware at all.

O and by the way, I've now tried 3 diffrent brand/types of 16x certified media listed on there 16x compatible list you posted above from Pioneer's home page.

I'd say the issue has nothing to do with Pioneers firmware, your firmware or the media I'm trying.

Maybe the drives just fubar'ed or something in my PC is. I've ALWAYS had this issue since the day I bought the drive with any firmware and any 16x certified media.

Maybe I'll give it a format tomarrow. Although I've formated atleast once since I noticed this issue already.

I'd say because of that:

Please post a log so we could have a look into this.
And don't forget that a 80wire IDE cable is necessary to be able to burn at 16x and run it in UDMA4 mode.

I do not believe your PC is "fubared". I would recommend that you that PDF very carefully if I was you. Especially regarding Manufacturer ID and Media REVISION which is far more important. Use common tools to find this info out.

When some companies label their blanks as "16X certified media" it DOES NOT necessarily mean "PIONEER 16X certified media" and there are FAKES to consider as well.

Last time I checked there is NOTHING incorrect in Pioneer's DVR-110_MediaList_137.pdf or DVR-110D_MediaList_137.pdf

And in the end what is this whinge for? 1 or so minutes wait TO RISK either a coaster or an EXCELLENT burn.

Cheers

So far I've only had a couple coasters out of a few hundred discs. One thing I have to say, these new 110/100D burners are damn reliable.

I'll try checking some of the media codes and making sure the disc's I have are in fact the right media.

O and by the way. This firmware seems great. Good work :)

Thanks for the help guys.

i'm having the same problem as kdogg.
i can't burn my 16x discs to 16x with nero 7. it only gives me 12x for my memorex 16x dvd+r and 8x on my tdk 16x. i have 8.37 firmware, 80pin cable, udm 4 on my system. windows xp pro sp2.
is there a special settings or driver i missed?

I forgot to post an update to this.

I verified my Verbatims are real, not some knock off [*Bologna*] discs. I went to my local best buy and bought some samples of other 16x discs to see what would happen and I've got the same problem with all of them.

Instead of picking the write speed, why not just select MAX speed and the writing should work its way up to 16x eh?

You could perform some tests by using Nero CD DVD Speed as a start and this discussion should stay in the original thread because double-posting creates redundancy and confusion...
