This is excellent news
Maybe the TDB will migrate the bitsetting feature in this firmware to the Pioneer 1.37 firmware

Really fail to see the point in flashing it through all those combinations.

So do the EXT versions support Ultra DMA 5 or something?

Nothing special about the OEM_EXT2 versions, except probably for laptop users wanting a better external DVD-RW drive.
Probably the only firmware worth patching (and crossing to GENERAL ala CROSS822.ZIP would be nice) is the main 0010 model firmware dvsmxh516fb_fw837.exe I guess.
My first post listed ALL firmwares and models just for the sake of completion. I believe BUFFALO and PIONEER HQ are very close (both in JPN) so BUFFALO seems to get the "best" official firmwares for all their Pioneer OEM models
EDIT:
While on the subject of completeness, there are actually two more (useless?) releases from BUFFALO for the EXT models which *seem* to updated USB2-IDE Bridge Adapter drivers needed on WIN9x ONLY. NOTE: the installers are in Japanese only!
They are:
DVSM-XH516U2 (DVR-110 EXT USB2-ONLY)
http://www2.melcoinc.co.jp/pub/hd/dvsmxh516u2_100.exe
DVM-RXH16U2 (DVR-110D EXT USB2-ONLY)
http://www2.melcoinc.co.jp/pub/hd/dvmrxh16u2100.exe
WIN9x USB drivers ONLY! NOT FIRMWARE!

Vlad you lost me there
presently my Pio 110D with bufallo 8.22(including booksetting)
since the buffalo 8.37(assume booksetting is included)
should I updated first with 1.37 and then with buffalo 8.37. TIA

I suppose none of these contain bitsetting AND DVD-RAM support do they? That would just rock if so.
If any of these are going to be patched might as well do the 011 versions just to be the latest.

oh damn!
I saw that but wasn't sure. Oh this is sweet if this contains bitsetting AND DVD-RAM support. If TDB make this RPC-1 this drive is officially everything I asked for (well pretty much anyhow ehehe)
One thing for sure is this firmware won't work with the Quiet drive utility right? I am sure that is reserved strictly for official Pioneer burners though I could be wrong on this too and I hope so!

I have run out of +R media and was wondering if any of the buffalo 8.37 firmware has bitsetting.
I am assuming that the 110 Buffalo firmware has ram write support?
Thanks

Why on earth would you need to put 1.37 on it?

You'd have to think there was some reason to have different firmware, BenQ had some external firmware with better UDMA support.
We posted some patched versions, will get to the rest in a while.

Great job on the patches TDB! Very quickly done!
I have to agree on your comment about the reason for different firmware revisions. Surely they wouldn't waste their time for nothing. The current burner don't even come close to using up the UDMA 66 that the drive is designed for however I feel having a better/faster/more optimized interface most certainly wouldn't hurt. I would like to see the EXT2 modified to see what it brings. We could check in device manager to see whether or not the drive is being recognized under a faster interface or not. If you would like a tester I am game.

@TDB:
Thanks for the current 837 (0011) updates. Looking very much forward to the 0010 (DVD-RAM write + FULL DVD-ROM bit/booksetting) ones.
And you are probably 100% correct (as usual) about the UDMA improvements on the OEM_EXT2 models.
@ALL:
Personally I do not want to risk flashing the EXT firmwares (original or not) to my DVR-110 (genuine Pioneer 0010 INT) just for the sake of testing EXT firmwares on an INT drive.
Perhaps someone with a real EXT model (DVR-110 or 110D based) can test these EXT model firmwares and provide feedback about any improvements.
EDIT: (much later)
Just to clarify and avoid some potential confusions:
The NEWER DVR-110 (5xDVD-RAM write) is Generation 0010
The OLDER DVR-110D (NO DVD-RAM write) is Generation 0011
So the drive generation number is the OPPOSITE of what you may think.
BUFFALO have just added the 0010 to their product range, including their excellent new custom firmwares with FULL INBUILT AND AUTOMATIC booksetting firmwares for their OEM DVR-110 models DVSM-XH516FB (ATAPI internal) and DVSM-XH516U2 (USB2 external). The Buffalo bit/booksetting includes setting booktype to DVD-ROM when burning any DVD+R which official Pioneer drives do NOT do. The booksetting is done automatically by the firmware, meaning that there will be no option to enable or disable it by a SOFTWARE program.
Cantankerous wrote: One thing for sure is this firmware won't work with the Quiet drive utility right?
100% CORRECT. The QuietDrive utility (A10 or otherwise) will ONLY work with PIO_ADV (PIOneer ADVanced, cf. RETAIL) firmwares which have extra code in them which the Win32 software tool QuietDriveUtility.exe checks for. Even though both the DVR-110 or DVR-110D have IDENTICAL hardware inside the QuietDrive function is essentially a SOFT/FIRM/WARE function added into A10 (or retail Axx) firmwares ONLY.
To date, and will probably always be the case, the QuietDrive routines have NOT been added into Buffalo firmwares. QuietDrive is a "luxury" intended only for RETAIL AND BADGED Pioneer models which usually cost more But the Buffalo firmwares do have FULL bit/booksetting which make them unique. The retail PIO_ADV firmwares (with QuietDrive) to date only do PARTIAL bit/booksetting, i.e. they are missing setting DVD-ROM booktype on DVD+R because it it NOT part of the official requirements of the DVD-Forum.
So for the "ideal" firmware for ANY "cheap(er)" OEM DVR-110 (or D)Pioneer drive, it would be based on an A10 firmware (QuietDrive) and with the additional automatic DVD-ROM booksetting for DVD+R of the unique Buffalo firmwares. But the "ideal" usually is but wishful thinking in practicality. It would not be an impossible task, but an enormous and time consuming one for firmware patchers. It would be like WRITING another firmware rather than just patching one. Just quickly compare the encrypted (or unencrypted) A10 vs OEM_INT firmware files of the same version for the same model, and you will see that they are completely different yourselves. Merging the two together for the "ideal" would be great but a heck of a lot of work.
So, like most things in life *cough* wife *cough* compromises always have to be made and the "ideal" is best left to "dream on about"

Great post & explanation, nullz!
I hope the highlighted text will be read by most viewers so we can discuss other questions.
The drive generation reflects the manufacturing dates on the drive: 110 has August 2005 on it. I'm sure most of the 110D have a later date on their sticker.

You mean that the DVD +r/w can't by use for a stand alone player?

yes they can be still used on a standalone, but many standalones, alot of old ones cannot recognise them, thats why the bitsetting allows the media to be seen as DVDROM which is compatible with most

Dear friend, TDB already have removed the region slavery.
If you need latest Pioneer just flash with 1.37, if you need bitsetting and RPC1 just flash with 8.37. In both cases you may use dvrflash, latest version and voil

Dear Friend...
Seems like you do NOT know a VERY important difference between 110 and 110 D drives/firmwares and the FARCE that is CURRENT 110 D firmwares.
Guess you must be VERY tired
