I've patched to teh X240 RPC1 firmware and although all drive info utilities report it is RPC-1 the drive is still locked to region 1. Any ideas?

I should have included more information.
I've done this with other drives just fine. I've tried DVD Genie, DVD Region Killer, even DVD Region Free+CSS all to no avail. I've tried to different revisions of Power DVD (v4 and v6) and also WindDVD and although all act slightly differently all play r1 titles and none can play r2 titles (regardless of dvd genie etc.)

Update: It is fixed.
It seems that a quirk of this particular RPC1 frmware is that you set the region code to something before you flash to rpc1.
If you flash back to rpc2, set the region code then flash it back again to rpc1 it behaves itself.
Sorry for the confusion!

Yep, for some RPC-1 patches this way is inevitable to work properly.

I have the same problem. on My IBM ThinkPad T22 with same drive. I can watch European DVD's with Windows Media Player. But after 4 changes to the region my DVD-rom is set to Region 1. My PowerDVD does not want to play the Euro DVD's no matter what I do. I used Drive Region Info V2.2 software it sees my drive as protected. I downloaded patch firmware 8175_X240RPC1 from here I ran it in DOS prompt and with boot disk in DOS.. as
c:\DWL2 0 x240.BIN
it does it quick and still sees as protected.. I am not sure if I am doing this correct, can some one give me step by step instructions please. thank you..

Thanks for the response. But I am not that good at this stuff. sort off new to this. I am not sure how to do this, is there anyway you can give me step by step instructions how to flash the drive and make it region free?!
I am not sure about VideoLANClient and DVD43, I use PowerDVD and Windows Media Player which plays all regions, but PowerDVD only plays Region1, when I try play Region5, it says my drive is Region1 and will only play that region, but Win Media Player plays both, but I would love to use PowerDVD for all my DVD's, can u help?

it did not work, i went to bios, could not select USB to be bootable device, this is on my IBM ThinkPad T22. Was not able to format USB as bootable MS-DOS disck to boot from. I used boot disk that I made, I boot from it, but then I have to change out floopy for DVD ROM, I can't have both in.. So I can't make it work, is there a boot disk that could load Real DOS with C: drive, so I can then flash from c: drive?
