Then the messages "Could not peform fixation" and "Section Fixation Error" appears and the CD is lost. Even my brand new sony CD-RW, was unable to be burned.

I have the same problems. I can read CD-ROM and DVD-ROM but not CD-Rs and CD-RWs. What is the problem with this player? My firmware is 1.00. Upgrading to 1.05 will solve this? What a hell of a recorder/player!!! Mine is connected to secondary slave. Changing to secondary master will help?

This is a known Nero bug, an update should help.
Normally the CD is readable or fixable afterwards.

I've executed JC5_DOWN for this drive. And decided not to upgrade firmware. But after pressing window close button (x in the right-top corner) flashing started and computer hung. What can i do to make my drive work now? It's even not recognized by BIOS.

What is that, a flasher or something?

Hm, is it a DOS-flasher by a chance?
You could then set the regarding IDE channel in BIOS to none, bootup, run the DOS-Flasher and pray.
I don't know if a tool like Mtkflash could work with your drive, but probably not...

Nope, this one is for windows. I've tried mtkflash to restore my drive... but it says "incorrect response" or something like this. So? Is my drive dead? No warranty applied? Warranty term not expired yet.

Hi,
I'm using win XP pro 64-bit. The flasher JC5_DOWN.EXE says "Cannot Load Dynamic Library" when started followed by "CD-ROM drive model doesn't match". Any ideas as to this error?
I also thought flashing from dos, already did the backup. The firmware you so kindly provided is however in HEX format as opposed to the binary the mtktool created. Can it read the HEX without problems?
Thanks, and may RPC face a swift end!

Okay.
To my second question: I read the f... manual and MTKTOOL only takes binary.
Now a report: I used the windows flasher at a friend(JC5_DOWN.EXE). The process took several hours to complete(!?!) and did so with one write error. My drive was inoperational after that. Fortunately I was able to flash the original back with MTKTOOL in a few minutes.
I don't know whether the write error was a random glitch, but the beta windows flasher sure isn't a very safe option. Personally I'd be happier using the MTKTOOL and a binary for flashing, it was two orders of magnitude faster and more stable X-P

[_chef_] wrote: What is the problem to use the DOS version then??
DOS version==MTKTOOL which, like I said, does not read the IDE.HEX, which contains the rpc1 firmware. I took a look at it, and figuring the conversion from that HEX file to working binary isn't trivial. It seems to contain several versions of the original binary and some instructions for the windows flasher.
If someone has a working binary I'd very much appreciate it. Another option would be the source code, but I doubt anyone but the dangerous brothers has it.

We didn't write the Windows flasher, that's LG's.
HEX files are [*profanity*], and the 4251B contains drive specific calibration data within the ROM image. Flashing an arbitary binary would probably cause the drive to fail.
If you want us to look at the original binary you can always email it.
