I work at a company which proces CDR media.
We notice that newest (of 32x) recorders only accept specific media not based on quality aspects (digital premasterd info on discs)
We are looking for somebody to check wether these features of the firmware can be disabled.
compensation possible

Not that I'm interested by any compensation, but could you please tell us which brand/models would do that and point to a firmware where one could check if what you say is true?

the following writers have the following actions:
atapi cd-r/rw 20x10 firmware vh.kf
brand "x" written maximum 16x, brand "y" written maximum 20x
lite-on LTR-32123s firmware VXS06
brand "x" written maximum 24x, brand "y" written maximum 32x
Plextor CD-R PX-W2410A firmware V1.02
brand "x" written maximum 16x, brand "y" written maximum 20x
The plextor drive doesn't inform you of the difference in actual and selected speed.
The Lite-on just doesn't give you the option of selecting the high speed when using brand "x".
If you want media media of brand "x" and "y", please let me know.
Maybe unnecessary to point out but we are fairly well known with this topic, and verification of this will be a waste of time.
Nevertheless, if you want you can check.
We think that it "brand based selection criteria" is a purposely done by japanese producers of writers to team up with specific (non european) cdr manufacturers to give them an advantage by offering higher speeds not based on quality reasons.
If you know anyone who is willing and able to help us influencing write strategy of firmware (including speeds and possibly powers) please let me know.
Sincerely
