hi,
i dont know if this forum is still active...but id appreciate any help i could get.
I dont really have a clue when it comes to this firmware stuff but i wanna know if the patch would help me.
I have an ujda 720 on a toshiba satellite 5105. The drive reads original cds and dvd's perfectly, and also burns nicely, but when it comes to cd's that ive burnt, it treats them as blanks or it just doesnt recognize them. The weird thing is that it reads certain brands of blanks on which i have written (amkette mostly...sometimes memorex) but the others...not so much.
So i want to know...will this patch make a diff...of is it for something else like to make the drive region free or something??

Haha....

What worried me was the message:

File and Drive is not the same model name.

Anyway I hit "y" and my drive is now region free!

Thanks!

Hello Nil

I remember asking a few months ago if there was any plans to add support to the UJDA 755 drives. You asked me to mail you a copy of the firmware that I extracted using the mpatch tool. Have you had any chance to look at it at all? Or is there any source code you could provide for mpatch so perhaps I could figure out what you are doing so I could patch the 755 firmware myself?

Thanks

Bt

nope. Because I never really planned to (as I am steadily retiring from the patching business). As a matter of fact, I will not do any additional work on the UJDA side ever.

That's pretty much my plan. Note that the mpatch code contains encryption routines that Matshita might probably not appreciate to see out on the open (although their encryption is not very elaborate), and for this reason, this code will have to be kept very private (I mean it!!!). Preferably, the code should only go to dedicated and experienced people who know what they are about to undertake and are REALLY keen on helping the whole community.
And, don't expect much help from me after I gave you the sourcecode either. Patching is a lonely and time consuming business. Self-reliance is, IMO, the foremost quality a patcher need to have. If you don't fit this, better look away.

That would be great, as long as you realise that you need to have good reverse engineering and disassembly skills to get there, and that if you chose that path, you need to be motivated by something else than the simple desire to patch your own drive...

If you drop me a mail, I'll try to answer it (though I don't know when).

Dell Inspiron 5100, MATSHITA UJDA740

Changed UJDA to MATSHITA in main.bat,
CD Image built fine,
Orig firmware, read and burned successfully to CD (using CD-RW if it matters)
It says it applied patch successfully to image,
Then after it says remove all disks (which I do) about to flash drive,
HIT ANY KEY TO FLASH

I hit a key, screen clears, and I see the Matshita program identification and copyright on the top 2 lines of the screen, and the flashing never begins, it just hangs there, have to ctrl-alt-del.

No flash takes place apparently.

Any hints?

Thanks

I ran the autopatcher on my UJDA740 and everything ran smoothly until the end and it finally told me "Unable to Patch". I am really just doing this so my DVD/CDRW drive can read my burned DVD-'s. It reads DVD+'s fine and I think I need a firmware update, but it's on an Averatec laptop and all the firmware updates only work for IBM and Dell computers. Any ideas anyone?

Making the drive region free will have no effect on the drive's ability to read recorded discs.

Ok, I have just burn CD boot for a DELL Inspiron 5100 (Sorry for my English, I am French - Google translation)... I made upgrade in 1.03 of the reader without Pb (UJDA 740).
While launching it, I already had Pb on the level of the test of reader, while passing the reader in PM, It's good, but in your script, the ERRORLEVEL 2,3 and 4 finish the program. I thus have throw in mode "step by step"... And... Oki... It launches the backup copy of the firmware, the serious good on CD, ejects CD, and launches Program Loader... But I remain planted on:
"ATAPI Dvd-rom & Cd-r/rw Program Loader Version 2.54. (c) Copyright 1995-2001 KYUSHU MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC CO, LTD. _ "
And I remained at least 15 minutes to be waited... But nothing occurs... Echap, Entree or same Ctrl-c master keys not... I have to make Ctrl-alt-suppr... The reader still is thus not flash...: - (

I have the exact same problem. I'm begining to read some other forum topics, but have yet to discover anything. Does any one have a solution to this problem?

Thank you.

Hi NIL!
Happy new year!

Today I have sent the dump file of my UJDA 740 firmware in my Acer 1600 to your email adress.

Additional Info:
Drive Information:
Description - UJDA740 DVD/CDRW
Manufacturer - MATSHITA
Firmware Rev. - 1.21
Extra Info. - 305230KME14470617731

I always get the P01 error, I already checked that drive is locked and no program is tampering with the lock status. If you find the gap in your valuable time to closer look I'll highly appreciate this. I also found that there are another Acer (1301, 1700 etc.) users with this problem and it is very likely that they have the same difference in their firmware as I have that prevents from successfull patching.

Thank you

I examined patch closely and it cannot be responsible for problem you described. The patch only unlock the drive nothing else. You can of course restore original settings from the backup you made in the patching process. Try it.

If you really don't have backup (!!) and that official fw strictly checks the version, I think the only way is to find a newer version for your UJDA 745. You can try a different manufacturers.

Had just actually tried mpatch 2.0 on Matshita UJDA740 (Acer TravelMate 803LCi), drive is a secondary master, firmware revision is 1.20, manufactured in December, 2003.

Here are some observations:
1. The disc creation was ok (rather simple, isn't it?;)).
2. When I booted with the freshly created CDRW, I let the default option (1) do the job.
3. The utility gave me information about my drive (description, manufacturer, firmware revision and extra info - 305160KME14472131351) and went to reading firmware. After that process it just said "Could not patch firmware!" and that was all.

After that I tried to dump my firmware, but I turned out to be too dumb for that. The utility did *something*, I booted back to WinXP, but I can see 2 tracks on this CDRW only in Nero. And the second track (the actual dump, yes?) doesn't want to be saved, or read, or something.

Will be extremely pleased to hear any suggestions about what to do next... if it's possible to do anything "next", of course. But I still hope to have my f**king matshita drive region-free someday... and I'd prefer not to use software tools for that (like dvd region+css free), although they actually work...

Hoping to here smth. from here. And best wishes to >NIL:, who did a great job with mpatch anyway!

OK, you recived the p01 error as I did.

You also cannot view the content of the CD as I cannot, reason UNKNOWN. The CD seems empty with the all the programs I use.

Forget about CD, just use windows version of Mpatch (read articles above for the link) and use verbose option in command line to create dump.
