I can confirm that 4160 DOES booktype to +R DL disks
Burned MKM01 and RITEKD01

I was little scared about ritek d01 compatibility
DVDInfoPro didn't give any write descriptor available and
the booktype was already set to DVD-ROM even if the disk was blank

Using dvddecrypter it burnt quite well and the booktype was definitely
DVD-ROM

Regards,
A.

PS: When 4160@4163 ?

LG's policy is to allow bitsetting for DL. For DVD+R SL, unpredictable.

Also supported in Nero as confirmed by some people in Singapore.

I am a little confused about the last two posts.

First, bitsetting is allowed for DL media on the LG 4160. Does this mean that you can select DVD-ROM or DVD+R for DL disks?

Secondly, bitsetting is not allowed for DVD+R SL or DVD+RW. In other words, you have no choice but to use the DVD+R or DVD+RW setting. Is this correct?

YES .. It defaults to DVD-ROM booktype for all DL media.

So, can you also select DVD+R DL booktype for a DL disk (instead of DVD-ROM)? I am not sure why you would want to do that. But it's nice to have options.

I haven't tried it but I am guessing you can with the right software...like you said not sure why you would want to though.

Nero defaults to DVD-ROM booktype.

I think (only think) 4160 only automatically force all DVD+R DL disc to DVD-ROM booktype AFTER BURNING IT. so you can't set any other booktype for DVD+R DL.

Before or after has nothing to do with it. Bitsetting can only be used during burning the disc.

I have only used bitsetting on DVD+RW disks with the HP 200i. But on the DVD+RW disks, the booktype can be changed back and forth after burning the disk.

Bitsetting impossible except that DVD+R DL is automatically written with its booktype set to DVD-ROM.

Kenny, thanks for the clarification.

I see that LG has just come out with new firmare for the LG 4120 and the 4163. Hopefully, this means that new firmware is about to come out for the 4160.

I am using LG GSA 5160D, firmware is A302,
it can change booktype for dvd+r, but not dvd+rw,
is 5160D just an external type of 4160b?
can I use all the update for 4160b in future?
