Matshita UJ-812 on Sony Vaio S type notebook

i have a Sony Vaio S type notebook, the dvd-rw drive is Matshita UJ-812 ver K103. This drive is able to write DVD-RAM disc (panasonic specs)..however, for some reason Sony locks this fuction. I am wondering is anyone have any clue on hacking this fucntion or having any firmware to fix this.....i saw many Taiwanese people saying there is firmware...but cannot find it..pls help
