It is most likely that it could be fixed in software, but finding someone both capable of rewriting it, and invested in doing so is quite slim. The GSA-4120B and GSA-4160B are not suitable software donors as they contain a different CPU and chipset.

I've read on this forum that someone patched as an alfa tester and was able to turn the 4120B into 4160B. How that's possible if you say they're different? Have you analized both of them inside? The instructions are in the eeprom and all you need is an eeprom reader to transfer it into the other model.
