Yes, it comes from NEC Germany. The 2.17 firmware was not official[ly released by NEC].

damn, and you need to have the official 2.16 to upgrade to 2.18. i cant find it anywhere! 
can anyone help me?

If you can wait till morning, we'll have the 2.18 posted.
Herrie had a hacked 2.17 that wasn't based on a real 2.17, but the 2.17 we've post comes from a real drive built and shipped by NEC. That's official enough for us.

2.17 was no official NEC firmware, but from OEMs. Read twice before judging.
You should be able to go to the NEC support site and look which firmwares are official or not - no one here has to do that for you.
No one had forced you to flash any firmware, it was your choice and your risk.
Using the DOS-flasher you can always update/downgrade.

Sorry but that really doesn't make any sense to us. What are you trying to say? Does 2.18 work or not work for you?
We have posted 2.18, and it does seem to be working properly for us.

the nec firmware 2.18 work i have installed on the 2.17 firmware ( from harrie bitsetting command 3) dvdinfopro tell me rpc2 bitsetting only dvd+dl, while the firmware 2.18 from rp1.org work with (informatiom dvdinfopro)rpc1 region free and b.setting still for dvd+dl. pc don't crash anymore
 sorry the firmware 2.18 in the your site is made from dangerous brothers?

what is the best firmware for nec 3500?  [/img]
