The Dangerous Brothers send me an alfa Firmware.
I am making the tests.
Let me check it and report the results to the Bros.
Because this is an experimental formware.
Born from the mix betwwen a 4120b flasher for windows with the formware of an 4160b.
At the begining when i aplly the patch.
The unit was an 4120b. after the patch.
When i reboot the machine.
The unit show it sekf like an gsa-4160b.
All test since 4x to 12x Ok
But i need to finish the test at 16x.
I think so than i will finish the test MOnday .

Support for Dual Layer on the 4082B will have to come from LG, it is not something that can be patched into a firmware. dhlee528 wrote: but 4082 to 4120 doesn't work?
We never tried, because they have different CPUs, a point we have made several times.

Hi Vlad.
I have a question
i download the a301 formware from your page to put the rpc1 version.
But when i start to flash the drive (4120b converted to 4160b) process began but there is no change apply to the unit.
May you help me?
I thing so this.
May be exists the posibility than new firmware(a301) check the version and if both reports the same number the flasher do not aply the change.
What you think abut myu opinion ?

How do you expect to detect a firmware change if you flash your drive with the same firmware?

Thank you TDB for your great work for all of us.
I am ready to be an alpha tester of LG GSA-4120B to a 4160B firmware modification, if you need (wish?) to. My GSA-4120 arrives tomorrow.
I can reach plenty kinds of media and make tests to give you results you need to make this firmware availiable to public (beta).
I am familiar with DOS command line, etc.
I will be happy 2 help U 2 help all of GSA-4120 users
Sincerly yours,
M@XiMuM

Are you new to PC-DVD Region Free in general?
I would bet that the firmware that TDB sent you the first time was RPC-1, maybe you should check with them or re-read their messages as they might have mentioned it. How are you checking the drive's region status, and do you have DVD Region Killer installed and enabled while you're checking the drive's region status? DVD Region Killer fools most software into believing that the drive has a region counter still.

Got the TDB FW 4120>4160 from drper4mance
(had the FW A111 original FW in my drive)
Failed with the mesage "Update failed. Please retry 70 00 ....)
the retry failed too
Than I tryed the TDB RPC1 FW A111 and all works fine.

The mos inportant thing hoere is this
THE 4120b@4160b from TDB
Is an experimenatl firmware that does not work vis ide channel
In order to convert a 4120b onto 4160b.
There a few list of requirements
1- Use an external USB 2.0 BOX
2- Use the 4120b@4160b or the 4120b@4160brpc fisrt one is the original
rpc2 FW from LG and second one is the patched rpc1 TSB A301
Also you must to remember than is an experimental FW and there is no warranty
This FW works excelent in my case!
BUT in order to convert you unit you must to known than there is also a side back effect
that is this:
After convert the unit the is no chance to apply other firmware update.
TDB know this side back effect.
Have a good Day
Dr Performance.

No, I am not new to the Region Free.
I prefer not to use tools like Region Killer, since it's not needed with autoreset firmwares I prefer to use.
Unfortunately drives run out of stock, so I have to wait...
What media should I buy till then to be usefull in alpha testing?
Waiting for an answer from TDB ...

16X Media Code: MCC 004 YUDEN000T03 MAXELL 003 TDK 003
We will release the firmware when we are ready. We are working with a couple of people on this, but we don't see any point in hurrying this project as most of you don't have 16X media to adequately test with. Please don't post here requesting the firmware, when it's ready for a general beta we'll post it.
To date we know that we can get 4160B firmware on to a 4120B drive, there are issues with the LG flasher and the IDE channel. We also know we can get the drive back to a 4120B using modified flash tools.
This is going to take some time, please be patient.
Brother Vlad

@TDB
will you make the 4120@4160 fw public to other users?
so that it will work also with IDE devices?
maybe thats the only way to get the 8x media I have here, to work @8x
(see my other post in the "new firmware releases")
cya and many thanks in advance

In order to connvert an 4120b onto 4160b yu only need to have some thing
Big balls
That is all
Why?
Because this firmaware is an experimental firmware than TDB makes for some guys
who wants to test the posibility to convert this unit onto other one.
Personaly i have 8 units successfuly converted usin the an external usb box
via pcu usb 2.0 card.
But, there are many guys using external boxes or ide interface who can not convert the unit.
But again when the TDB consider than the convert utility is secure they will relase.
Every flash f/w process has the implicit risk to [*Profanity*] off you unit!
Thanks
Dr Performance
