Hi boys and girls ;),

first, this is a TOP Board and i found many Tips in past for my Drives, thanks for this. (hope my english understand for you)

But now i have my first problem.

This day my Pioneer DVR108 comes and i patches it with Nils beta Hack.
In NERO i can switch for all Media to 16x ;) Thnx Nil... but when i burn 8x or 12x my DVD-Rs go to Hell 16x i have not tested.

It was tested with 4x Datawrite, with 4x Princo, with 4x Princo Budget, with 4x RiDisk R04, with 8x Budget and ALL Media crashed sooner or later :(
I can only burn complete to 100% when i used 4x burnspeed.

What is the Problem?

My old DVD-R107 with 8x4all FW works fine, everytime...

My PC:

P4 2,6with HT
2x 120 Seagate 7.200
2x 512 MB Twinmos
GA-8KNXP
nothing OC'ed
DMA enabled - Pioneer 108 is DMA 4

...but i dont think it is a Hardwareproblem?!?!?

Can anyone help?

UDMA 4 is a correct setting (DMA 66) that is what pioneer uses for the DVR-108. My dad had (has) the same problem with an identical setup / drives as my computer. We've found that if you flash to a OFFICIAL 1.10 first, and then back to NIL's this works better. I've been able to do 2x CMC at 12x with no prob's (16x is slower, but works as well.

Mr. Finch, all the media that you tried are cheap media, so if u can burn them at their normal speed and not twice this speed, no wonder.
Have u tried to burn them a 6x ? 8-)

Well, I just mean that you cannot expect from a media to be burnt faster than it should successfully, and i have no idea which one can support that, some media have been listed in this topic. :P
Since u seems to be german, look at ebay.de, there are lots of verbatim that match ure price. Better buy at least 4x verbatim, coz the 2x verbatim that I bought are only supported in 1x with this [*Profanity*] burner !

OK, thnx for your infos ;)

I wonder, many Peoples wrote they can burn Lowcoast Media (4xPrinco etc.) at 12x without problems...for me it was a test, it dosnt work, good, thats OK to. 4x is 4x, better i burn the Media slow and the Data are save on it ;)

Now i patch the 108 back to the original 1.10 FW.

Our Sony DVP-NS-500V will not play DVD-R's burned on my dad's Nil'ed Pioneer, however it will play my Nil'ed burns. Also we have an older model Sony (DVP-S530D) that will play all of our burns. We did some research and found that the newer burners seem to have recognition problems especially with DVD-R media, and after warranty expires, they have recognition problems with all media (Possibly a weak laser?). That might be some of your problems, with concern to his patch and "corrupted" media. Try some of those trashed DVD's in another player ;).

Is it possible that we could have a firmware that just has the rip limit removed and makes the drive RPC1??

Thanks

Hi, man. Try to use the Ritek G04.They are really cheap now.About $40 per 100 discs. And you can use the hacked firmware to burn at 16X.

hi
i've flashed my pioneer dvdr-108 with the 1.06 patched fw. I can select all speed 1x to 16x in nero but in 8x, 12x or 16x the burning time is 8 mins for a full dvdr.
In 16x the time must be approx 4 mins .
Someone have the same probs ?

WRONG!

Read and understand other posts & reviews regarding write speeds, then post questions.

Hey [_chef_], take it easy ;)
Can't blame the guy for not realising that the marketing depts of Pioneer (and other companies) are twisting reality to make the products specs better than they actually are.

Because of ZCLV, a 16x burn is not half the time of an 8x burn. The 108 is actually a 12x drive with a twist anyway...

Hello all!

I just got myself one of those 108s (and new to the DVD burning word  ) and updated the firmware to >NIL:'s 1.06 16x4all. Does it really do 16x burns, regardless of what I select from my burning software? It seems to be the case because when I select 8x for a burn it just ignores that and burns at 16x! Any help on that?

@arvind : How did you figured out the drive is burning at 16x?

Hello Corbus

The burn took approx. 7 mins for a 4.3 gb disc and naturally the disc was a coaster! I know it reaches 16x only at the 4gb mark because of the drive's Z-CLV strategy but nevertheless it is burning at a higher speed than 8x.

TYG02 doesn't even manage to burn 6x and 8x properly, so it went to the trash as well
Why should InfoSmart media you bought as Bulqcrap work at 8x or faster? TYG02 media (if you don't dream of getting it at like 40 cent a piece and buy Taiyo Yuden TYG02 instead of InfoSmart TYG02) natively works at 12x on many drives
