i downloaded the mtkflash off the site. and i obtained my original firmware frm the firmware pg. what do i do next?
i've tried putting everything into a floppy. and boot into dos mode to run the application. it juz hangs after 'backing up firmware".
but i use readout.bat instead cos i couldn't figure out mtkflash's commands.
sorry abt it trouble cos i'm pretty new to this stuff....

If you run MTKflash.exe without parameter you get this help:

MTKFLASH by Joseph Lin, MTK 1998 (Ver 1.38)
usage: MTKFLASH <IDE port> <R|W|SR|SW> [/Ax, /B] [/U] [/M] <file list> .
IDE port: 1 - 1st IDE, master
2 - 1st IDE, slave
3 - 2nd IDE, master
4 - 2nd IDE, slave
R: read flash
W: write flash
SR: read ICE28LF010 flash
SW: write ICE28LF010 flash
/Ax: x = 0 address 0 - FFFF (default)
x = 1 address 10000 - 1FFFF
x = 2 address 20000 - 2FFFF
x = 3 address 30000 - 3FFFF
/B: BIN file (defalut HEX)
/U: Auto Write Flash (for MT1198 + PAGE WRITE Flash ROM only)
/M: read multi-bank data into one merged file

That means that MTKFLASH first parameter is the IDE-PORT eg. 1 for Primary master.
The second parameter is the function. eg. W for write.
Then follow some switches (/A0 or /A1 ... for the memory Bank, /B for Binary file)
And the last needed Parameter is the filename.

If your firmware file is only one file try to use:

MTKFLASH x W /B filename.bin
(x is the port, and filename.bin the file)

If you have more than one 64KB file use this

MTKFLASH x W /A0 /B file00.bin
MTKFLASH x W /A1 /B file01.bin

(x is the port, and filename.bin the file)

If the file is not binary then use the same like above but not with the /B

Ok, I think I've got this thing figured out, but I just want to know if I should use the version of mtkflash that's on www.firmware.fr.st that came with the download or if I should get the newest version at Etna's site. What are the differences or advantages? Here's what I'm going to do, please let me know if there are any problems:

1. Press f8 before bootup and choose DOS prompt
2. Type upgrade.bat
3. Choose secondary slave

After this, from what I gather, my Creative 1241E should be region free. :)

Guv, check out the 5th post in this thread :) I don't want to directly link to the file because it is not on my server.

Since this is a mtkflash sticky i thought it might be useful to some to have a look at the tutorial written by OC-FREAK, to be found at the cdfreaks forum:

http://forum.cdfreaks.com/showthread.ph ... adid=45977

i know what we have right here is great, but it doesn't hurt to have an extra source of knowledge ;)

Already it had seen this site! I made everything as it says there, but when I execute the MTKFLASH, only appears the name of the program and it does not make more nothing being motionless.

It forgives for my English!

Same thing happens to me. I use MTKFLASH 1.38 or 1.48 and nothing happens after typing in the command string. I have a Samsung SD-612 that I flashed wrongly so it stopped working. I talked to etna and he gave me some advices on how to do it all. TRied it with a Windows 98 start disk, but nothing happens after typing in the command:

MTKFLASH 4 R /B /M file.bin

Just the normal blink from the marker, and nothing else. Please advice someone :/
