I just got my new Pioneer DVR-108 in the mail and having troubles. It came with no disk to help me install. I am running windows XP and it looks as if it recognized it fine. Though every burning program I have is not recognizing the drive. Why is this happening? Can someone help me to get it working? Do I need to upgrade firmware? Also if anyone has used it with DVDShrink I would be very greatful if you could help me to get it to work with it.

Thanks

You shouldn't need to update the firmware just to get it to work. What software are you using? s/w version?

DVD Shrink is pretty easy. Figure it out for yourself, or checkout other forums/help guides.

IF you purchased the drive OEM, then of course, no software was included. This explains the low cost! Unfortunately, because this is such a new model, most any burning software you currently have will require updates to support it. If your old Nero software came with a drive, you'll probably need to purchase a Retail edition of it.

The Pioneer DVR-108 is currently not listed in the supported drives database but at least with the current Nero version it is recognized and working properly.

1. how many cd/cdrw/dvd/dvdrw drives do you have installed on your computer?
2. if you replaced a certain cd drive with currect dvd drive, did you uninstalled the previous drive by going to my computer -> properties -> hardware -> device manager and selecting DVD/CD ROM drivers?
3. are you using 80pin cable with your current DVDR drive?
4. Nero 6.0 should recognize with no problems as well as shrink dvd and other dvd burning software....

i didn't have any issues installing my pioneer. i had nec 2500 before, all i did was just uninstalled it from device manager and installed pioneer and everything worked like a charm, don't need any software or drivers...

by the way i had SP2 for xp installed, so maybe that's why.

Anyway, good luck to you,

just wanted to say thanx for another great firmware release - even thou its only a beta its werking great for me and mine here in canada - was using your patch for the a07d and was burning my 4x inkjet Legacy DVDr's at 8x with no problems with great playback on any of my standalone players - now with the 108 and your beta patch I can burn the same discs at any speed even 16x but whoever said in here that 12x is faster then 16x was correct for sure so i use 12x but they are all flawless.

just incase anyone else has a problem flashing from orig 1.04 to "1.06 >NIL:" for some reason when i first flashed to beta all software would lock right after the lead in burn (and yes i have all the latest rev's of all software nero etc..) so what i did was flash upto the 1.10 from the pioneer site link in here then flashed back to >NIL:'s patch and now all fine. just FYI.

anyway i have burnt oh at least 50 dvds with the new >NIL:'s patch and all fine, so again >NIL: thanx a million , cant wait to see if you make any improvements on it.

I have been able to do successful burns with the 16x4all patch at all rated speeds. Currently i have been using 2x CMC's burning them at 12x and 16x, 12 is better tho ;). My dad has not had as much success. We both have 108-BK's and Lite-on SOHD 16x DVD-ROM's. We also have Identical computer setups Asus P3C-d Dual 1ghz P3 Slot 1's. We also followed the same flash procedure (1.04 -> 1.10 -> Nil 1.06 Beta) When he is using identical media (CMC 2x) he will occasionaly get burns that won't work on our Sony DVD player (when burning at 6x, and sometimes 8x) it displays disc is dirty on the Sony, but it will play in any computer DVD-ROM. Any suggestions?

Can someone...anyone...please link to or post exact step by step instructions on using DVR Flash with the firmware? I have been looking and reading and can't find specific instructions. I can get to the CMD and cd to the DVR Flash file and run it, but after that I am lost. If anything, just tell me the exact path to use (taking into account mine will be a little different) to install the firmware. If I can see an example of the format used, I can figure out the specifics.

I am loving this DVR 108 so far. She burns my Ritek 8x's at 12x by default.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Robert

2x @ 12x and 16x? Madness!
SONY standalones are very picky and crap IMO.

will this firmware work for an external firewire case? i have the pioneer dvr108 drive installed into an external firewire case. the drive seems to work ok with regular dvd-r discs.

my drive also seems not to work with 2x media, it can however write to it, but at 1x speed.

however i am unable to burn a Dual Layered disc with the case. I have the latest firmware version of 1.10

i have also tried to update the firmware but when i tried to install the firmware from pioneer's site, it says "No target device found"

any suggestions???

I always updated my firmware (Nil's one also) in Windows when my burner was in a firewire case, so should be ok for this.
In which OS did you try to update your drive ? Dos ? Windows ?
(in Dos, it's normal that firewire is not found)

The situation is exactly the same for me :
My DVD-R Verbatim 2X DataLife MCC 00RG200 want only to be burned at 1X and I tried with the burner in the firewire case and also on IDE in a desktop.
But no pb for a Verbatim 8X, except the fact that at 12X, since my firewire was a bit too slow ... well, I was happy to have burn-proof !
Funny, because some burner (eg pioneer dvr-105) can burn them at 4X !
So I'm currently dealing with the pioneer support, hoping they will release a firmware that can burn these at 2X or 4X, but I think Nil will release his firmware before !

Official firmware that will allow you to burn 2x @ 4x?
That will surely not gonna happen!

I bought a Pioneer DVR-108 OEM, bulk. A Nero CD was included. It's up to the distributor whether a drive is bundled with software or media or not. OEM Nero costs just a few dollars. Therefore, whether you buy OEM or retail, software bundle doesn't matter much.

I flashed my 108 to 1.10 on receipt last week
THEN FLASHED TO HACKED 1.06
Then flashed to 1.10
Then reflashed to Hacked 1.06
Still working but two issues:

1. 'Region lives' left is 2 -btw no dvd films have been anywhere the machine

2. Copying a 600 Mb data cd at the moment 69% after 33 mins

Any comments?
