You do not need and shouldn't use the 'k' flag normally. This forces Kernel mode. Very rarely needed...
You also do not need the 'f' flag when performing a normal flash. This is the Force flag and is needed only when downgrading or flashing the kernel.
The 'v' flag simply requests more Verbose reporting, but doesn't aid whatsoever in a normal flashing process.
The only line you need to use when performing a normal flash upgrade with DVRFlash is:

Here are some simple instructions for flashing to >NIL:'s beta 16x4all firmware:
- Download DVRFlash v2.0
- Download the beta 16x4all firmware.
- Put DVRFlash.exe and R8100108.106 directly onto the root of your C: drive.
- Go to Start->Run and type in "cmd"
- Type "cd c:\" at the command line to change your working directory to the root of the C drive.
- Type "DVRflash X: R8100108.106" changing X to the drive letter assigned to your DVR-108 and hit enter.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.

Rather than put the files in the root of your system place them all into a separate folder of your choice and select that folder in explorer, Right click and select the option "Open Command Window Here" then just type the command line into the command window.

When you say the root drive, what do you mean exactly?
Is the root drive, just C:?? Or is there a specific folder it needs to be placed in??

can you please post a complete guide to this, as I have tried both ways suggested and cannot get either to work. I am a newbie to flashing, and dont really have an idea of it.

Ok guys thanks for the help. I know a little more than the basics, but dos is not one of my forte's. But will follow your advice once more.

As not everyone was born BW [Before Windows], perhaps this could be of use to those who've no knowledge of command line/DOS.

Apparenly, somebody has written a GUI for Agent Smith's DVRFlash. I haven't used it, so can't vouch for it.

Thankx for that. Am downloading now, and will try. But pesrhaps a simple guide for idiots, such as myself should be written, as this would save alot of questions.

Here's a "guide" for Windows flashing
Download DVRFLASH
Download relevant firmware (Kernal too if OEM drive) files.
Uncompress DOS DVRFLASH into a dir ie C:\FLASH
Uncompress firmware into same dir C:\FLASH
Open DOS command box
Change to C:\FLASH directory
Type in relevant command, ie
DVRFLASH -V E: 12345678.123
(normal part only, file is 1MB)
Yes
Check drive, firmware (bar firmware revision)
Yes
or
DVRFLASH -V E: 12345678.123 ABCDEFG.ABC
(normal and Kernal, 1MB + 50KB files respectively)
Yes
Check drive, firmware and kernal match (bar firmware revision)
Yes
Of course replace E: with correct designation. You might also need -F when flashing Kernal too (bottom one). A experienced flasher can perform a flash within 3 minutes.
That's the gist of it. Hardly writing a in depth guide.

Basically I Have Bought A Pioneer DVR-108 Drive
And Have Tried To Patch The Firmware With
16x4all_beta1.zip
and DVRFlash v2.0pre_win32.zip
The Drive I Bought Was In A Brown Box, Does That Mean It Was OEM
and I Needed To Flash The Kernal As Well ?
Because Now The Drive Will Not Write CD's Properly
And Will Not Write DVD's Properly Either
Where Did I Go Wrong?
or How Do I Fash The Kernal Of The 108 ? And Where Is The Kernal File For The 108 Located ?
