What is the Pio A08 or the NEC 3500 like? Which has better write quality?

Also, (maybe a stupid question), does the 2510 and the 3500 use similar hardware?

Come on people, 40 views and no answer or vote. I take it that no one has got their hands on the new drives?

What do you expect, the drives aren't released yet. Only Announcements so far.

The NEC will be maybe released earlier than the Pioneer XL drive.
Both drives seem to use the same/similar hardware?!???

I wonder if the NEC burner will feature CAV/P-CAV or Z-CLV like the Pioneer x08xl ...

You'll need practically proved facts before judging about the drives is really possible. :)

Thanx 4 ur replies.

Sorry, I didn't know that the drives were out yet but I have seen them on various websites up for sale (Preorder maybe?) If the drives used the same HW as the predecessors, people like >NIL (Pioneer) and Herrie (NEC) would please us all with hacked FW (Keep up the good work, fellas).

BTW, has anyone heard anything about a 4x DL Lite-On, Benq or Optowrong drive yet?

After having tested the ASUS DRW-1604P i am not very satisfied the drive needs work at the firmware, of course Pioneer should fix first all the problems so ASUS can improve also.

Even we haven't tested NEC 3500A, only from the CAV writing method, it took my vote

PS. Review later today or tomorrow for ASUS DRW-1604P :D

Now it seems that the NEC drive can also burn DL at 4x, at least with recommended media, which is then similar to the Pioneer drive.
I was wondering why that wasn't clear earlier cause they are obviously using the same PUH...

NEC has a speed advantage using CAV for

From some first test results i see that NEC 3500A is very fast with its CAV writing speed for +R format!

Interesting, I had to add a new manufacturer to our database :)

Are you in touch with TDB, they're looking for testers for their DOS flash tool.
