I just wanted to express a very big thank you to the Dangerous Brothers for their fix for the LG DVD GDR-8162B. Like others, I downloaded last year's patch but must have had the SST chip. I got thru the 98% then timed out but didn't wreck the drive.
Recently I downloaded the U015 EXE version, tried it in Windows, no joy. Brother Vlad had said "read the instructions" so I did. I accepted that the firmware is not guarranteed. I tried this and that then the penny dropped, it must be "pure DOS" not the window in Windows. I used the shutdown command to exit to DOS. Still no joy ! I kept getting a message "no floating point support! " I am no DOS guru, I was clueless !
Then, tonight, Jackpot ! I started the PC by using the boot disk and selected CD ROM support, having copied the U015RPC1 EXE file on a 3.5 inch floppy. Put it in, after the computer has booted, type A: U015RPC1 and off it went, you are asked do you want to proceed, type y for Yes. Then a string of dots works its way across the bottom, take out disc, boot normally and YES ! DVD Genie shows RPC1 unlimited changes !
So once again,
Three Cheers for the Dangerous Brothers ! Vlad, you have my eternal gratitude.
