Hi guys, as it is more and more easier to get a CDRW/DVD drive via ebay, there is also a very important issue and you need to be carefull

because the same drive model (e.g. Toshiba SD-R2002) is used in mayn different Notebooks with different versions of firmware and inside the firmware there is "jumper" setting if MASTER or SLAVE

so depinding of the Notebook model you need to know which firmware needs to be used; i am having currently such a problem and now way to get any help or support

because currently 1E29 is installed and I need to know which other firmware for this drive is MASTER jumpered, dont want just to do a try and waste my number of possible flash cycles

SO THIS IS MY SUGGESTION:

a listing of all firmware releases for each drives and for what kind of PC or Notebook it was originally written; optinal alternative compatible firmware releases

because with the numbers only you have no idea what to do

so will see if this will be possible :-)

thanks

Hans / Austria

p.s.: by the way, if someone know a solution for my problem, please ...

Then, where would post our messages. There are hundreds of firmware "floating" on the web.

Compromise:

Have a list on known CD/DVD drives in an easy to read list. This would beat searching the forums and links.

Well, start posting what you know and it will be available. We don't exactly have access to all drives and notebooks to do it ourselves.

Buy a SLIM IDE to DESKTOP IDE converter. Connect your drive to PC and start flashing firmwares one by one. Then take note how system finds them after reboot and make a list. Post it here.

I think no one from us patchers has a laptop or any of the Toshiba combo drive...
