I am trying to flash this Teac drive but none works. I have downloaded about 4 different versions of the firmware available for this drive and none works. The original firware returns an error indicating incorrect file size, while the other versions return a incorrect parameter error. Any ideas why this particular drive cannot be flashed?

As follow up I am noting that the drive displays the following:

In 2 laptops the boot process does not complete because of an error identifying the drive. However, on one of the laptops on installing after bootup the drive is recognized as a slave on the secondary channel.
In a desktop the drive is recognized if connected to the middle connector on a 2 connector cable. It is not recognized if connected to the end connector. In the desktop the drive is recognized as a master on the secondary channel.

Another follow-up:

during the flash process the following is displayed
Product: CD-W216E
revision: 1.0A
binary read: total byte 262144
data write: data transfer 264192

Then it gives the following error after the large, red FAIL that appears
"write total bytes = 264192 not equal binary size = 262144 status = 48"

Because the binary read amount equals the size of the bin file, I tend to believe that maybe I may not have the correct firmware. I say so because the data transfer amount seems to refer to the size of the firmware currently on the drive. If this is the correct assessment, what is the firmware or drive model I should use when flashing the drive?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just one question, why would the firmware available on this site not work?

Would like to know just to inform myself.

Thanks.

http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/d ... 4e_10a.zip

This is supposed to be the original firmware and it returns the error regarding the difference in amount of bytes.

There is also another firmware version, region free version, that is supposed to work with this drive but that returns an error as well. Something about parameter not supported. I can't locate the link for that one. As soon as I do I'll post.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_file.php?site= ... DW224E.ZIP

This is the link for another firmware I have tried.

I notice that these firmware are listed for a drive other than the CD-W216E. However, the readme says that the drive option allows writing the firmware to several drives. In my case I have tried the /cdw216e option which is supposed to be for the drive I have. Question, is this way the firmware update should work?

Another thought is that I should try and get a firmware that has a size corresponding to the size that is returned in the error I wrote about. How can I get a firmware that will have this size? Is there a listing for the size of the firmware?

Hi Betheman,

Did you ever resolve your problem regarding the Firmware ? I'm going through the same process.

Regards,
Andy B
