Hi i am new here i've been reading the forums but i can't figure out how to use MCSE to unlock 8x Blu-ray rip and all the other cool stuff people are talking about here. I looked under the custom firmwares but i didn't see anything pertaining to the LGBH08LS20 drive. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Then start reading the MCSE guide on its site.

You can use the BH08NS20 firmware available at http://buffalo.jp/download/driver/hd/br-h816_fw.html. This voids your warranty and removes the light scribe feature.

that page is all japanese O.o, isn't there a version where all features are kept but 8x rip function and all the other stuff is maxed? i don't really care about the warranty i rather have a drive that functions to its fullest capability  BTW is there a full tutorial on MCSE somewhere? and i went to LGE.com and looked for the most current or any firmware for bh08ls20 but there is nothing on their website what gives?

No, it is not. There is a large icon with the text "Download".

People with this drive on these forums what firmware did they use to hack it? Sorry i am a little lost :?

so is there a firmware with the correct attributes or do i have to use that firmware and lose the lightscribe function? Besides where is the tutorial for MCSE to customize this drive?

Thanks for the links ala i am using MCSE version 12.0.3 and i loaded firmware Buffalo_EL02-05_BH08NS20_090330 into MCSE and i get a message stating "Displaying the Media Code list is not available yet for the LG BH08 firmwares. Riplock and RPC2 Autoreset patches are available" ? So how can i change the values? Also another question i have both the LG GGW-h20l and the new BH08ls20 but i am going to return one of them back obviously the bh08ls20 is faster and it can be even faster with the hacked firmware. If it was you which one would you keep? Which one performs better so to speak?

Did you read the pages I linked ? Check the checkbox of the feature you want to activate.

The BH08 is the better drive.

isn't there a way to dump the existing firmware on the BH08 using something like a jungleflasher or something then edit it with MCSE to have all the features and then some? Just wondering? o.O

I doubt you really want to edit or swap media codes. The current restrictions have nothing to do with the source or revision of the firmware. Parts of the firmware, especially the media code list, are stored packed and I have not integrated an unpacker and repacker yet.

So "Read Speed Increase and RPC2 Auto Reset" are my only options at the moment?

Read the text of the message box that pops up when you load the firmware with MCSE.

Ok i finally got a chance to test the BD-R function tonight, Fry's Electronics was having a sale on Memorex Cake Box 25 GB BD-Rs they are supposed to be 1x ~4x speed! But i don't if it;s BH08NS20 firmware or what i burned it at 6.3x which was amazing! I figured maybe the movie would skip or something thus i watched the first 15 mins of it and it came out awesome! But The drive recognized the BD-R as here is a partial log:
I 18:40:35 Source File Application Identifier: ImgBurn v2.5.0.0
I 18:40:35 Source File Implementation Identifier: ImgBurn
I 18:40:35 Source File File System(s): UDF (2.50)
I 18:40:35 Destination Device: [5:0:0] HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH08NS20 EL02 (D:) (ATA)
I 18:40:35 Destination Media Type: BD-R (Disc ID: RITEK-BR2-00) (Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

I really thought i might had problems since Memorex is made to be written on up to 4x! i am glad i bought 3 Cake Boxes! i also have some Ridata that i never had any problems writing with my GGW-H20L but i guess on my next burn to see if the Ridatas' will reach speeds in the 6x!

P.S. Special Thanks goes to Ala42!

Probably you will regret that you have burned them at 6x some day...
I think 4x would be the better choice for Riteks.

well imgburn was set to AWS thus it determined the speed own its own i figured it would have stopped once it got to 4x but it kept going up! And why does it recognizes it as Ritek when in fact it is Memorex?

Hi, I to just got my LG BH08LS20 today. I have connected everything, but I cannot get the drive to reconise a blu ray dvd. I have tried to load the software that came with the drive, but it gives an error of, "only works in LG(HLDS) device". The software is , Super Multi Blue install disc ver 1.2. I have powerdvd 8 installed and dvdfab 6. neither of them reconise the blu ray dvd. They keep telling me the drive is empty.
The driver date for the installed drive is 2001. It automatically installed when I plugged in the drive.
I don't want to use custom firmware just yet, so can anyone please help me.
Thanks

The DRIVER has nothing to do with the FIRMWARE on the drive!
The driver comes with the OS!!

Don't even try to flash the drive as long as its not working correctly.

First fix your drive setup problems (especially wqith the controller used).
