Does anyone have any firmware that will allow a Matshita BD-RE UJ-220 blu-ray drive to read/write DVD-RAM discs. The drive was purchased to fit a Dell XPS M1730 with Dell OEM firmware v1.0 that does not allow these discs to be used. I've checked with Panasonic who say the drive is capable of using these discs but naturally they won't send me any firmware.

YES, same here!!! I even tried the fws on the site here but one says 'drive not connected' and the other states 'wrong drive'. So if anybody could tell us where to get the correct 'normal'/regular fw for the UJ-220 would be really great and very appreciated.
Thanks

The correct OEM firmware has to come from DELL, regardless you like it or not!

You cannot crossflash without an patched flasher, and there is none such, AFAIK.

DELL always cripples firmwares...no surprise.

BTW, why were this thread not posted in the REQUEST SECTION??

Messed up about the request, sorry. Anyway there are no firmware/driver updates from Dell, I've already been there. They say the drive won't read/write DVD-RAM and quote their spec which can be seen at http://supportapj.dell.com/support/edoc ... /index.htm. The trick is that Panasonic quote this drive and their UJ-225 (which is the slot version) as being able to accept DVD-RAM discs so original firmware should be the answer.

Has anyone one of these drives that DVD-RAM works with and if so is there any way of copying the firmware or got any more ideas as I think the answer must be out there somewhere, otherwise I have, quite possibly like a lot of others got an expensive drive that we thought would do what we wanted only to be dissapointed.

I know these are supplied to Sony and that there are updates for these from Sony but I can't find out if the Sony drives have the same problem. Anyone got any more ideas.

Did you not read my post carefully??

While for most of us with the UJ-220 there is no firmware from OEM's that will update the player profile, there is software that will make it profile 2.0 compliant (no PIP)

Cyberlink just released ultra 7/8 updates (Full Retail/Download) that resolve the blu-ray playback issues regarding bd-java interactive menus and AACS keys (BD LIVE). (i.e., locking up of player and/or black screen and failure of movie/preview playback with Fox/Sony/Disney releases)
The new player update fixes the glitch that locks player up when using bd-java interactive menus, and allows bd-live to connect and retrieve updated player keys to decrypt movie (internet connection for BD Live required), and reduces movie loading time.
note- BD-live feature embedded in the software, and does not require profile 1.1, or 2.0 firmware. Essentially this software update allows computer-based profile 1 players to be profile 2.0 complaint. This does not enable profile 1.1 PIP which is hardware dependent.

Download and install the following update:
Build 2021(pdvd8); Build 4407 (pdvd7)
