Hi, I don't understand what you mean by,"First fix your drive setup problems (especially wqith the controller used)."
Sorry

I think the issues you have are related to a wrong controller/drive setup, therefore my answer...

Well done alterious you're a real star !
Actually dragging info from a programmer like ala42 is a real skill.

His programming skills are obviously of a high standard, but his documentation is very poor. Consisting of about 6 lines of sketchy info closely followed by a change log which nobody cares about anyway.
I used to program in C++ . When I thought I had finished a project, my boss would say and NOW the documention. I would actually quiver with fear.
Most programmers are actually quite lazy, loving the programming, which they do not consider actual work. But running a mile if documentation is mentioned.

All programmers to a man (or women) after finishing a project know every detail of the process they have gone through and can't understand why everybody doesn't know what they know.
So good detailed concise step by step documentation is a chore as far as they're concerned.
I am not necessarily singling out ala42 as being unique for this . But when asked questions on a forum such as this, they think , why doesn't this silly person already know this and they simply give a quick 1 or 2 line answer which they consider good enough to work out a solution. Rather than giving a complete rounded answer to solve this or that persons dilemma.
So as in this case poor alterious had to ask multiple follow up questions, a bit like trying to get blood out of a stone.

Please don't take this personally ala42 as all programmers are guilty of this weakness. Just as they are guilty of the number one weakness of all programmers of being over confident at the start of a project . Thinking they can solve a problem in a couple of hours when actually it can take years.

Looks like you spend more time writing your post than reading my homepage. Even the short 10 point usage tells what to do when you want to remove the riplock or increase the read speed.
Quote:
Usage:
1) Download the firmware you want to modify.
2) Start MCSE.
3) Load the firmware file by clicking the load button.
4) To increase the read speed, simply click the increase read speed checkbox. A greyed out checkbox means this feature is not available for your firmware.
5) To increase the write speed, double click the media code you want to change and select the write strategy you want to use instead. This is a bit of trial and error.
6) To teach the firmware a new media code name, select an unused media code of the same media type from the list, e.g. a -R media name if your new disk is a -R media, and rename it by modifying the Media Name/Ext/Rev fields on the right.
Instead of manually renaming, you can also import the media name by clicking the import button and following the displayed instructions.
Click the set button when done. The original media code will not be supported by the firmware anymore.
7) With some firmwares you can directly modify the write speeds using the write speed checkboxes and clicking the Set Speed button. Greyed out checkboxes mean this feature is not available.
8) Save the firmware.
9) Flash the modified firmware as usual.
10) Reboot.

This is the detailed concise step by step documentation you asked for. Please do not blame me that you did not read the instructions on my homepage.

alterious had a problem to find the firmware for his drive (step 1), as LG did not release one, so I provided a link to the only firmware available at that time, which does not support Lightscribe.

And yes, you are right, I do not understand what the problem is with following the step by step instructions I gave on my home page or the drive manufacturer specific threads on cdfreaks I linked on my home page. I also do not understand why you did not read them but tell me I should do what I already did. To put it in your words, your reading skills are very poor, but I do not single you out as being unique for this.

I really cannot agree with this.
The guide is short & precise, otherwise it would irritate more than help many users new to this program and flashing in general.

The original firmware should be able to be dumped by the software i created.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/flasher/files/

the gtk version requires you to have the gtk runtime libraries installed.
http://gtk-win.sourceforge.net/home/ind ... /Downloads

the console version runs from the command line..

flasher -d [drive] -m main_frimware.bin
flasher -d [drive] -c core_frimware.bin

eg. for drive e:
flasher -d e -m main_frimware.bin
flasher -d e -c core_frimware.bin

its still basically beta but has been tested on many lg drives and is also able to flash..
this will also work for linux users but sorry you will have to compile it from source.

I used the console version of my software to rip the firmware from the exe at the japanes site and the found it should definitely be supports.. even the exe is one that is used with other flashers.

on a site note my username is normally devilsclaw with no s and i already have an account but it wont let me do anything about it due to password problems from conversions.

quick note about the dumping process.. depending on the drive it will seem like it hangs because it is searching for a pattern in the drives memory... It can take a long while... but this is the best way to support multiple drives with out pre defined addresses that change in different models..

if you do dump an original firmware pls post since im sure many would be happy to have a backup that have already flashed over the original.

Here's the firmware I extracted. That's weird though, it says BH08NS20 in the header.

Oh, okay. Can I patch my dumped original firmware to increase speed (and add RPC2 autoreset), and retain Lightscribe capabilities?

You better patch the firmware released in the rpc1 firmware database or the 2.00 firmware released by LG, as that is tested.
