I have one of those Matshita UJ-840D (used under Linux so I need to be able to raw read sectors to play DVDs :/). Therefore, I would attempt to crack this firmware since I see lots of others want it too if only I knew how...
Well, I have "patched" a few programs before for personal use so I have a basic understanding of debuggers, assembly, etc but I have no idea how to attack a firmware. Is it possible to point to a "cursory, brief overview" somewhere? It doesn't have to hold my hand, just give an outline so I know what to research (if indeed "patching" software that runs on the CPU is even remotely transferable to fiddling with firmware...)
