Hi,

I flashed my uj868 KB19 successfully (with first the rpc1, and then back to original), and managed to brick it (won't mount, does some buzzing, then ejects).

Brick?

Please advise.

Ok so I have no idea what I am doing wrong with this. I have the UJ-867 HA13 and so i downloaded the file that it said and also the Matshita Flasher. After doing that i followed the instructions on the page which says to drag the UJ-867 HA13 file over the flasher nothing happened so I also tried dragging each of the two items over the flasher. One of the files says UJ-868_HA13_RPC1.dat but i don't think anything is on it because it's pretty small only 796KB (at least i think that's small and you can't do anything with them or open them or anything) and so is the other file which says UJ-867_HA13.dat. I really want this to work but I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing wrong please help. Thanks in advance

The .dat files are the firmwares. Unpack the flasher and drop UJ-868_HA13_RPC1.dat onto the flasher icon.

Sorry but I'm still not sure I understand what you mean by unpack the flasher. So what i did was I downloaded the flasher and I got an application with an icon of what looks like a devil holding a guitar. I can open the flasher and i can also see the package contents but I don't know what any of it means. I tried dropping the .dat file all these things but i can't get anything to happen. Sorry if i'm making a really stupid mistake but I've never done anything like this before and I'm pretty lost.

Or can I install the new firmware with emulator the Mac?

Thanks in advance.

I do not know why it does not work for you. You can start the flasher manually as a work around. Copy the simple_flash binary from MatshitaFlasher.app/Contents/Resources and the firmware UJ-868_HA13_RPC1.dat file you want to you to the desktop, start Terminal, run
cd Desktop
and start the flasher with
./simple_flash 0 UJ-868_HA13_RPC1

Why do you want to flash it ? Anything wrong with the current firmware ?

I will probably extent the flasher to read the firmware from the old packages in 1-2 weeks, as I do not want to convert all packages already available in this format.

He says he can not change more often.

The best you can get now is the RPC1 patch in your PM.

I just want to ask one last thing before i give up on this. I think my problem is with the .dat file. As far as i can tell there is nothing on them. I can't open them and i cant do anything with them. I'm not sure why but the default application the .dat file opens with is HP Photosmart print, i've tried opening with that and i've tried opening with the flasher but neither do anything. The flasher seems fine I can open it I don't see anything wrong with it. Can anybody help I really want this to work.

For those who are looking for a RPC1 firmware (free zone) which is NOT already published, please read this topic who was be made by ben11 in 2007!

We first ask you to search to find if a RPC1 firmware was already been published.
Then please post here the Matshita dump, with the exact drive model, original firmware revision, additionally put your computer's model.

The tool : http://files.rpc1.org/index.php?act=view&id=5742

The default app for .dat does not matter. Did you start simple_flash manually in a terminal window as I posted above ?

If thats the flasher than yes I manually opened it by double clicking the icon and it starts but that didn't do anything. when i drag the .dat file over the flasher the icon starts bouncing like it's going to open but it closes right away and nothing happens. Sorry if i'm making this more confusing than it needs to be but I've never done anything like this before.

No, that is not what I wrote above:

Hello,

I applied the RPC1 Firmware for the UJ-857E (Rev ZF1E). Writing the firmware with MatshitaFlasher worked fine. Here is, what DVD Info X says after a reboot:

Vendor: MATSHITA
Model: DVD-R UJ-857E
Firmware: ZF1E
RPC-1 (region free)

Then I installed Region X to be able to switch Region Codes, which appears to be working as well. However, when I insert a Movie-DVD (I tried Region Codes 1 and 2), the Drive spins at fairly low rpms for a couple of times and then ejects the DVD. :(

I can still read Data-CDs (Haven't tried Data-DVDs, yet).

My System is a Black MacBook 3,1 (Late 2007) 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, running OS X 10.5.8.

Anybody else having the same experience?

jg0815: the drive ejecting the disc is a standard operation when it cannot recognise the cd or dvd. try cleaning the disk, then using a can of compressed air to blow out any dirt from inside the drive. Those two factors stop my mbp reading disks 99% of the time.

Hi franton,

thanks for the reply. I am quite certain that dirt or dust is not the problem. I keep my MacBook and all of my DVDs very clean out of habit. I tried 5 DVDs that had only been played once before and all of them were spotless. Also, I have never before had issues with CDs or DVDs being ejected due to dust or dirt. I'm afraid this must be related to the RPC1 firmware.
I will hold off, re-applying the original firmware. Maybe somebody else has had the same issue and was able to fix it. I can't imagine that it's a big issue, since the drive can still read data CDs.

Hi to everyone,

I've registered to say thanks to whoever was involved in unlocking the firmware for my Matshita drive.

I've successfully unlocked my drive using: 2010-01-12 UJ-868_KB19_Stock_RPC1

I am so happy about it, thanks to all those who worked hard (I'm sure it was hard work!) to make this happen, I cannot express with words how useful this is to me, so I am very thankful indeed.

I hope all the people involved in this and the ones who created this forum as well, and to the people who are here to help by answering posts, etc... To all of these, I wish a healthy life, lots of success and much happiness.

Thanks again!
