This is the 3rd drive I made rpc-1. Five years ago, when all this DVD-business was quite new, I flashed a UJ-815 with cynicals ingenious firmware updater not only to rpc-1, but also to UJ-816 capabilities. When I bought this PB 15" (the last one ever produced) I had the drive exchanged by an Apple Repair Store to a Pioneer K-05 and flashed it with Vegas' flasher and the firmware provided by TDB. Now, after only 2 years, the K-05 started rejecting certain disks (btw, the UJ-815, though used extensively, is still working fine). So I replaced it myself this time, using the manual from "iFixit.com". That was extremely helpful, though they forgot to mention that the PRAM battery is glued to the optical drive. That made me quite nervous for a couple of minutes, but now I do know how to change that as well. The rest is not very difficult – you just have to store the [*Profanity*] in a certain order, so that you can find them easily when you put the PB together again. And then ben11's flasher for the UJ-846C worked just fine. So, thank you ben11 and thank you people who keep this page alive. But all this rpc-1 business wouldn't work without xvi's small app "Region X". xvi, I think you're the coolest and most decent guys in the net and it seems like a miracle that your "soul" has returned to provide us with a universal version (1.2). xvi, I wish you a long and happy life, and may your soul live forever! yohey
